Bike Discounters

Let me say first, Chris is a very nice guy & I like their store but I will not be going there again. I purchased a Groupon for a Deluxe Full service tune-up for my vintage 10-speed, their top of the line package that retailed for $149. When I got it back, it was not even clean, so they took it in for another week and guess what - still not as clean as one would expect. I went over it again, MYSELF, and with a dry toothbrush and a rag, finally got it clean. If your car was detailed like my bike was for $150 bucks you'd be pissed off. But I shrugged it off and tried taking it for a test ride. I couldn't shift gears, the chain was getting hung up an a screw that was inserted backwards. I have had this bike since 1982 and this has NEVER happened. Obviously, they didn't check it it over or maybe they sabotaged it due to my complaints. Either way the result was the same, I had to get greasy, which was what I was trying to avoid in the first place. I also found that the rear brakes (plenty of pad) wouldn't stop the bike. It would stop eventually but they were not gripping enough for an emergency stop of any kind. So I had to adjust my brakes, tighten the levers, remount the backwards screw and clean the thing. No new pads, no replacement cables ($10 @ Sears) but I probably got some new grease. So what did I pay them to do?? I suppose I could have called Chris again but honestly I don't want to loose my bike for another week & risk it coming back with yet another problem. Buy a bike from them if you dare but definitely DON'T take your bike there for service.
