Dental Examination

X-rays
With dental x-rays (radiographs), we can view your teeth and surrounding structures with remarkable accuracy and in a way the human eye cannot. Teeth Cleaning
Plaque and tartar can accumulate on the teeth without good oral hygiene practices and regular dental cleanings. Bacteria in plaque irritate gum tissues, causing inflammation and infection.
Fluoride Treatment
Teeth may be sensitive during the week following the in-office bleaching. This can be dramatically reduced by using Sensodyne toothpaste to brush your teeth the week prior to and the week following the bleaching process. Also, your dentist may recommend fluoride treatment following the bleaching process.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are often applied to the primary (baby) teeth or secondary (permanent) teeth that have not received restorative dental care. Sealants are applied as a liquid and seal to form a thin, plastic like covering over grooves of teeth. They prevent food and bacteria from collecting in the natural grooves of your teeth, subsequently preventing decay.

Fillings
In the past, Silver or amalgam fillings were extensively used. Currently we can provide tooth colored fillings (composite) as well as the amalgam. There are some pros and cons to both and I would discuss them with your dentist.
Resin Composite
Unfortunately, dental bondings, composite resin fillings (tooth colored fillings) and old crowns cannot be bleached. Fillings that have discolored indicate that they are either leaking or have secondary decay, so it is best to replace them. A better choice may be to replace them with porcelain laminate/veneers for longer lasting results. Remember; only replace these fillings after bleaching in order to match the new improved color of your teeth. â€œHow long does bleaching or laser teeth whitening really last?â€
Veneers
Dental veneers restore the color, shape, size and length of your tooth. Veneers are considered a permanent restorative solution and when cared for properly can last many years. They are often made of porcelain. Each veneer is custom-shaped to cover the front surface of each tooth to drastically improve the overall appearance of your smile.
Crowns
They are not a good recommendation when there is much dental decay or significant tooth wear usually associated with bruxing. Please see All Porcelain Crowns below.
Bridges
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is an alternative option to dental veneers. Composite material is applied to the surface of each tooth and cemented in place with the use of a curing light. Dental bonding does not always require the removal of natural tooth structure. Dental bonding can be used to correct spaces or gaps between teeth, brighten your smile or repair chipped or stained teeth. Cosmetic bonding is affordable and often lasts many years, but will eventually need replacing, unlike porcelain dental veneers, which can last decades if cared for properly.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal therapy can be an effective solution for saving a deeply decayed tooth. Root canal therapy removes the decayed portion of the tooth as well as nerve of the tooth.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
With the advent of laser dentistry, this can be done very easily and painlessly in most cases. Tissue sculpting (gingivectomy) is done in adjunct to any required cosmetic work to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.
Deep Cleaning
A deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing is the first line of treatment for gingivitis and periodontitis. The process of scaling is similar to that of a routine dental cleaning. Scalers are used to remove plaque and tartar from below the gum line and in between teeth. Root planing involves cleaning and smoothing out the tooth’s root surfaces to encourage the gum tissue to heal.

Dentures
Dentures are used to replace missing teeth. They are custom-made to look natural and fit comfortably in your mouth. Dentures are generally made of acrylic resin but can also be made of a combination of other metals.

Dental Implants
Dental implants allow for effective speaking, chewing and are the closest tooth replacement option to your natural teeth.

Tooth Extractions
Dry Socket is the most common complication of extraction (removing a tooth). Most commonly associated with wisdom teeth extractions & lower molar extraction. Dry Socket is one in which the patient is having pain due to the loss of the blood clot from the socket following extraction, thus exposing the bone to air, food, and fluids. Patient experiences excruciating pain along with an offensive odor. This often occurs two or more days after an extraction and can last about 5-6 days.
Bone Grafting
A dental implant, a tooth replacement option, is used to replace missing teeth or as an anchor to hold dentures or bridges in place. First your dentist will evaluate your bone structure to determine if you are candidate for a dental implant. Bone grafting may be available for those lacking adequate bone structure. Dental implants are typically made of titanium and are a permanent solution for tooth loss.

Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the dental specialty that focuses on the development, prevention, and correction of irregularities of the teeth, bite, and jaws. A patient may consult an orthodontist after receiving a referral from his/her general dentist â€” recommending orthodontic treatment to improve the patientâ€™s physical â€œorofacialâ€ appearance. However, the American Dental Association recommends that every child receive an orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Invisalign is proven technology designed to give you the smile youâ€™ve always wanted, without the pain and anxiety associated with metal braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth. You wear a set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. As you replace each set of aligners with the next in the series, your teeth will gradually move until they reach the position your doctor has prescribed for you.
