Dental Examination
X-rays
Radiographs assist dentists in diagnosing cavities, especially cavities between teeth that cannot be diagnosed during a visual exam. We call these specific cavities interproximal or “in-betweenies”. These “in-betweenies” often form at the broad contact surfaces of adjacent pediatric teeth due to less than optimal flossing. In addition to diagnosing cavities, radiographs, such as panoramic x-rays, may also be used to evaluate growth, development, diagnose extra or missing teeth, and evaluate potential areas of oral pathology and cancer. An example of a panoramic x-ray is provided below.

New patient visits include an orientation to the office, soft tissue examination, oral pathology/cancer screening, x-rays (if needed), child appropriate cleaning, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene instructions, dental development evaluation, habit (thumbsucking, pacifier, finger) counseling, dietary and nutritional counseling, and patient/parent education.
Dental Sealants
Sealants protect the grooved and pitted surfaces of the chewing surfaces on back (and sometimes front) teeth where most cavities in children are found. About 80% of all children’s cavities occur in grooves and pits. Sealants are applied to teeth to help prevent cavities. The application is quick, comfortable, and only takes one visit. Your child will be able to eat and drink 30 minutes after the appointment. Rye Pediatric Dentistry does not use sealants containing Bisphenol- A (BPA).

Crowns
Find the tooth and hold it by the crown. Try not to hold the root. If the tooth did not fall on the floor and did not get soiled, rinse under room temperature water. Do not attempt to rub or clean the tooth by any other means.
Dental Bonding
In the event of tooth fracture, malformed teeth, or tooth discoloration we are able to repair teeth by using a tooth colored material.
Restorative Dentistry

Braces
If a broken appliance can be removed, take it out. If you cannot remove it, place a cotton ball or chewing gum over the area or wire causing discomfort. If there is continued discomfort, take your child to a dentist immediately. If the appliance is broken but not causing discomfort, the child usually does not need emergency treatment. Call your dentist for an appointment as soon as possible.

Teeth Whitening
Patients often desire brighter, whiter teeth. This especially pertains to teenagers who completed braces treatment or just before important events such as the prom. Rye Pediatric Dentistry offers home whitening kits with custom made trays specifically formulated for younger patients. The doctors at Rye Pediatric Dentistry will discuss with you and your child if they are candidates for such treatment.
