Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Typing, writing and jobs that require repetitive lifting continue to be a threat for developing the condition known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). The debilitating syndrome is named for the tunnel surrounding the nerves connecting your wrist, hand and fingers. Overly stressing the median nerve can lead to the aching wrist and numb fingers associated with CTS. Often, hormone fluctuations can put patients more at risk for CTS, so pregnant women, and women between the ages of 34-60, may be more likely to experience these injuries.

This program is designed to reduce the inflammation and pain, stretch and strengthen the affected areas, and educate the patient on correct posture, body mechanics, ergonomics and self management of their pain. Modalities are used as necessary, such as Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound, Heat / Ice, and more. Crucial to their early recovery is the management of the patient’s posture and techniques to reduce repetitive stress injuries. If the patient is still having trouble returning back to their level of work, then they may be advanced to Work Hardening / Work Conditioning as appropriate, or a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) may be performed to determine if they are able to return back to the same level of activity.

Physical therapists also use massage therapy to help alleviate depression and anxiety. If a person constantly experiences high levels of stress or fatigue, massage therapy helps the muscles to relax, easing the effects of stress. A professional massage or physical therapist can ease the effects of chemotherapy and can hasten the healing process after someone has had surgery.
Iontophoresis
Physical therapy services may include manual therapy, range-of-motion exercises, functional training, soft tissue massage and strengthening exercises. Manual techniques may include therapeutic modalities like ultrasound and iontophoresis. Depending on the type of shoulder injury and the extent of the injury, physical therapy may be needed for months. Physical therapists also help to educate patients on how to improve posture, improve gait and avoid future injury to the shoulder. Often, patients are given a home exercise program for lifelong protection and health of the shoulders.

Sciatica
Back pain and sciatica are often related. Sciatica causes back pain, numbness and weakness that radiates along the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is a big nerve that travels the full length of the body, following the lumbar region of the back and down the leg all the way to the feet. Pain begins in the lower back and typically travels to the buttocks and leg. Sciatica pain is sharp and searing. Most sciatica symptoms are a direct result of lower back abnormalities between the L4 and S1. Pressure is usually put upon the lumbar nerve root. It is important to note that sciatica is a symptom of an underlying problem. It is not a diagnosis in itself. But overall it is important to find back pain and sciatica relief to get back to daily life without pain.
Whiplash
Whiplash is the most common injury incurred in a car crash. Whiplash typically occurs when a person’s head is forcefully and quickly thrown backward and then forward. The neck stretches back and forth, quickly straining the muscles and fibers. This motion may injure bones in the spine, disks between the bones, ligaments, muscles, nerves and other tissues of the neck.
Pinched Nerve
For example, if you have chronic migraines or frequent bouts of tension headaches, a pinched nerve in your neck may actually be the culprit, rather than your diet or your busy schedule. In addition, you may find that the problems you’ve been having with shoulder mobility — or shooting pains down your arms and hands — often spring from compressed nerves in your upper vertebrae.

Some of the same causes of hip pain can also affect knees, including arthritis and bursitis. In addition, sports injuries such as tearing your anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can lead to severe knee pain, as can suddenly twisting your knee and tearing your meniscus. “Loose body” is another knee pain cause; this involves bone or cartilage coming loose and getting in the way of joint movement. Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder is another name for adhesive capsulitis. This is a shoulder condition that limits the range of motion, and it may be caused by long periods of inactivity, diabetes or surgery. Scar tissue may also form, preventing the shoulder joint from having the proper space to rotate normally. Symptoms of frozen shoulder typically include stiffness, pain or swelling in the shoulder. Gradually, the arm loses mobility, and reaching for an item may become impossible.
