Minnesota Energy Resources

Apparently the days of Customer Service are long gone and Mn Energy Resources is proof perfect. This winter my mother's house froze and because she had hot water heat, it caused $20k worth of damage, ruining not just the furnace and breaking pipes, but also fixtures, carpeting, etc. A month prior, our caretaker went into the house and it was 83 degrees. Our bill for a 1000 square ft house was over $300 so we called and had a tech go in. He diagnosed a bad thermostat and eventually replaced it. We had him come in and check again and according to him, the temp had returned to 60. Shortly after, the house froze. Our insurance company tried to contact Mn Energy to discuss and I tried to get the tech notes from Customer Service. In every case I was told the Field Office had them and would get them for me. In one incident I had one of their reps yell at me until I asked for her supervisor. I understand they were anticipating a lawsuit, but sometimes you just need to do the right thing. My mother still mourns the loss of her home. She's 91 and felt that at least she still had a home to call her own. The insurance settlement wasn't much and with depreciation really wasn't enough to cover everything that needs to be fixed. They never followed up with her, continued to Bill her, though of course the gas is currently turned off. I feel like this company epitomizes what's wrong with corporate America.
