Arthritis
Knee arthritis is caused by the deterioration of cartilage in the knee joint. The two most common types of knee arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but they are each treated differently by knee injury specialists.

Primary Care
A plan that offers a variety of services including physical exams, education, and preventative medicine programs, in exchange for a fixed-monthly premium. An HMO may be an independent company, or it may be sponsored by an employer, insurance company, hospital, union, or government agency. Members either select or are assigned a primary care physician who is responsible for all referrals in providing adequate patient care.
Emergency Care
A fever is defined as a temperature greater than 100.4 F. Fever related to surgical wound infection usually does not present until several days after surgery. If you are experiencing a low-grade fever after surgery, it is most likely related to breathing differently during and after surgery. It is recommended to take deep breaths throughout the day to open the lungs. If you were given a spirometer device after surgery, use it as directed by the facility. If fever is greater than 100.4 F and it has been more than four days since your surgery, then it is appropriate to call the “on call” provider or report directly to the emergency department.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Repetitive strain can often cause chronic wrist pain. The carpal canal is a closed space located within the mid-area of the palm side of the wrist. It is covered by a thick ligament known as the volar carpal ligament. Inside the tunnel-like enclosed space courses the median nerve and the flexor tendons. It is theorized that because this is a closed space, as pressure builds up with repetitive movements, problems occur and pain is an inevitable result. The patient will feel a numbness and tingling in the areas that are supplied by the median nerve, which runs through the thumb, the index and middle fingers, and through half of the fourth finger on the thumb side. The patient may also experience a weak grip and a loss of fine movements.

MRI
The usual signs and symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising, and loss of the ability to move and use the joint (called functional ability). However, these signs and symptoms can vary in intensity, depending on the severity of the sprain. Sometimes people feel a pop or tear when the injury happens. You should see a doctor if you have severe pain and cannot put any weight on the injured joint, if the injured area has lumps & bumps (other than general swelling), if you cannot move the joint, and/or if you experience numbness or redness spreading out from the injury. A person with a moderate sprain usually has some difficulty putting weight on the affected joint and experiences some loss of function. An X-ray may be needed to help the doctor determine if a fracture is causing the pain and swelling. Magnetic resonance imaging is occasionally used to help differentiate between a significant partial injury and a complete tear in a ligament.

Computed Tomography
You need to bring: X-rays (original films, if possible). The hospital will not mail the films. LPO will keep the films in your file unless instructed to return them. Also bring any diagnostic studies (MRI, CT scans) and your insurance card and referral (if needed).

Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a procedure which allows your knee injury specialists to inspect and repair a knee problem with a minimal incision. Using the arthroscope (a powerful lens & fiberoptic light), a surgeon can look into your joint, diagnose its malfunction, and often make necessary repairs. The procedure normally takes 1-2 hours.

He is a member of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons and American Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Weido is board qualified by the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons in both Forefoot and Rearfoot surgery.
Joint Replacement

Jonathan D. Boyle, M.D. is a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, born and raised in Coppell. He attended the University of Notre Dame earning his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Biology and Theology. Dr. Boyle obtained his Medical Degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas. He then completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency in Fort Worth, TX at John Peter Smith Hospital. Dr. Boyle subsequently attended the prestigious Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center where he completed a Fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery. He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Following residency, Dr. Johnson elected to subspecialize in the treatment of lower extremity arthritis, a condition that all too commonly afflicts us as we age. For this, he spent a year in Boston, attending the prestigious Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. Here, he trained using conventional techniques as well as the latest cutting edge technology, such as augmented reality and robotic surgery, to perform hip and knee replacements. Dr. Johnson is proficient in virtually all types of procedures in order to achieve the best possible outcome for his patients. These procedures include the muscle sparing anterior hip replacement surgery as well as minimally invasive posterior hip replacement, robot-assisted joint replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery, partial knee replacement, and revision joint replacement. He is also a strong advocate for outpatient joint replacement (same day surgery) when appropriate.

Physical Therapy
EXERCISE AND PHYSICAL THERAPY Physical therapy and/or home exercise may be suggested by your knee injury specialists. These exercises are designed to slowly strengthen your knee and increase its range of motion. The speediness of your recovery will greatly depend on how dedicated you are to following your physician’s recommendations. Your physician may also suggest that you use a brace and/or crutches until your knee is stronger.
