Find an ethical optometrist elsewhere!
I have been a patient of this and the prior owner Dr Rappaport, since the early 1960's. I have always been pleased, but a recent experience has ruined that long time relationship. In fall of 2018 I went in for an exam and to order new glasses & frames. I gave them my vision care insurance card, had the exam, ordered new lenses & frames and discussed the cost. I was given a sheet with what my portion of the bill would be. I paid that, got my glasses in a week or so and was happy.
Almost a year later I received a bill for an additional $155. The office manager said that the Dr had filed it with Medicare, not my vision insurance. I was not told that they were not filing it with my insurance company or that I was expected to pay more than the agreed upon price. I said that was not my problem if they misfiled it. I called my insurance company to discuss it. They said I should not have to pay that since the optometrist office misfiled it. I contacted the Dr's office again and relayed what the insurance company had told me. The office manager said she would talk to the Dr about it. I heard nothing for about 4 months when I received another bill for the same amount. I called back. The office manager said Dr Kartesz would call me the first of the next week. Instead another employee called to say they would not reverse the charges. She would not allow me to talk to the Dr.
This has been a wholly unsatisfactory mishandling of a loyal client.
I will pay the bill, but I strongly advise others to seek vision care somewhere that has an ethical relationship with their patients.
If you use them, you will not be able to trust the bill they give you. You may end up owing more than you are told and you may not even know it for a year!
