Her Boxer Jax is what inspired her to get into Veterinary Medicine. He had two torn ligaments in his knees and needed surgery. Once Dana saw his radiographs she was hooked and knew this was the right choice for her. She has a special interest in animal dentistry and hopes to become a Certified Veterinary Technician in the future. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games as well as watching Netflix with her other half. She has a smiling Chihuahua named Syd and three cats Bandit, Harley Quinn and Spike.

To maintain essential pet health, we recommend a combination of routine check-ups, balanced nutrition, regular vaccinations, and early disease detection.
Nutritional Counseling
Homemade meals can be beneficial for your pet when prepared by a licensed pet nutritionist. Many of us believe that because homemade meals are healthier for humans, they must also be healthier for pets. When properly balanced, a homemade diet can be beneficial, but unless you have extensive knowledge of pet nutrition, preparing your own meals can be harmful to your pet.

Welcome to Riverview Veterinary Hospital! At Riverview Veterinary Hospital, we believe in the importance of preventative care and wellness screening. Many potentially deadly diseases are completely preventable with the right care, and many diseases can be managed much more effectively if they are caught before your pet is sick. To this end, we focus our annual wellness exams on discussing these potential problems and managing the risks specific to your pet. If your pet does get sick or require further treatment, we also offer in house radiology (x-rays), bloodwork and can perform most surgeries. We also attempt to accommodate emergency visits for all of our patients, should the need arise.

Deworming your pet is an integral aspect of pet care. While nearly 85% of kittens and puppies are born with parasitic infections, most animals develop immunity over time. Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Some pet breeds are more susceptible to excessive eye discharge. For pets with lighter fur, this discharge may stain the area around the eyes, causing a pet to look unclean. Cleaning these ocular secretions is extremely important, as a build-up of eye fluid may cause harmful bacterial infections. There are numerous products available at pet stores that clean and sanitize eye secretions. If you opt not to purchase a special product, you can use a clean, damp cloth to gently remove eye discharge, but avoid making contact with the eye itself.
Ear Infection Treatment
Video Otoscopy â€“ Video otoscopy is used to diagnose and treat chronic ear infections and diseases. A magnified camera is inserted deep into the ear canal to identify any abnormalities, tumors, or foreign bodies that might exist. If immediate treatment is needed, tools can be attached to the otoscope to flush waxy build-up, perform surgery, or remove foreign objects.

Cats refuse their litter box for several reasons. The reason why your cat chooses not to use the litter box depends on where they are opting to go instead. Cats who start to relieve themselves just outside the litter box are trying to signal you to clean the box. No pet likes to step in their own waste so perhaps the litter box is too full for your cat to comfortably â€œgoâ€ in. If your cat is seemingly having accidents around the entire house, they may have a urinary tract infection and will need immediate veterinary assistance. If you are unsure why your cat is refusing their litter box, itâ€™s best to schedule a veterinary exam to be sure the problem isnâ€™t caused by a serious medical issue.

Nutrition, including controlling your petâ€™s weight, seriously affects pet health, especially as your pet ages. Weight management is one of the most critical factors in maintaining pet health. Giving your pet unlimited access to food (free feeding) is one of the worst things you can do. The standard serving for felines and canines is 120-170 calories per pound of body weight. If youâ€™re trying to help your pet gain weight, increase caloric intake, and if youâ€™re wanting your pet to lose weight, decrease caloric consumption. During a routine exam, we can discuss the exact amount of food to add or subtract from your petâ€™s diet based on breed, activity level, and current weight. Remember that overweight pets are more likely to suffer from arthritis, certain cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and skin problems.

Dr. Garriga completed his undergraduate work at the University of Florida, then attended Ross University for veterinary school. He graduated from Ross University in 2004. His interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery and therapeutic laser therapy. When he is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Declawing
Spaying and Neutering
In an effort to help your pet live a healthy life, we provide spay and neuter services. Choosing to spay or neuter your new pet is one of the most responsible decisions you can make as a pet owner. Spaying and neutering pets is estimated to add years to your petâ€™s life in decreasing or eliminating their chances of getting certain cancers; it also helps decrease the amount of animals in shelters and the number of euthanized pets each year.

Laboratory Services
Heartworm treatment for dogs is possible, but treatment is costly and hard on your petâ€™s body. It typically requires many vet visits, blood work, x-rays, hospital stays and multiple medications. There is no drug approved to treat heartworm in cats. That said, cats that test positive for heartworm have a better prognosis as they are not ideal hosts for the parasite. The best thing for you to do for your pet is to prevent heartworms from ever developing.
X-Ray
Stage 3 â€“ A cough, tiredness, and some trouble breathing. Signs of heart and or lung damage are usually seen on a chest x-ray at this stage.
Microchipping
Even the most responsible pet owner could leave the garage door open or forget to close the gate, resulting in a lost pet. Microchipping your beloved pet could be the difference between having your pet returned and not being able to find them. While it is estimated that nearly 3 million pets in shelters are euthanized annually, some of those animals are pets whose owners were unable to find them. AVID, one of the major microchip manufacturers, states that approximately 1,400 pets with microchips are reunified with their owners per year, saving them from euthanasia.
