The Second Judicial District Court is governed by Washoe County in Nevada. It employs a work force of more than 140 people. The court specializes in the areas of facilities and courthouse security, legislation, jury management, family mediation and exhibit control services. It also offers technology management, intergovernmental liaison, and research and advisory services. The Second Judicial District Court operates a Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) department, which trains community volunteers to handle cases related to domestic abuse, contested child custody battles and disputes over parental access and visitation. Its Family Court Self Help Center provides information regarding the filing and service of documents, as well as coordinates workshops, informational sessions and seminars. The court operates through domestic violence, jury, mediation, probate and foster care education departments.
