Osteoporosis is a progressive disease, which means porous bones. This occurs due a gradual loss of calcium from the bones until they become extremely porous and weak. When the bones can no longer support the body’s weight, they fracture. Bone loss occurs most commonly in the spine, ribs, and hips. Bone loss normally declines after the age of 35-40 years of age, but accelerates in patients with osteoporosis. Medical conditions that promote osteoporosis include endocrine problems, diabetes, kidney and liver disease, gallbladder dysfunction, rheumatoid arthritis, and anorexia. Other conditions are Marfan’s syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and osteogenesis imperfecta. Other risk factors are vegetarian diet, alcohol, and exposure to cigarette smoke, and a high daily consumption of dark sodas. Some medications contribute to reduced bone density, such as methotrexate, corticosteroids, Lasix, Dilantin, and stomach acid blockers.

I have been seeing Dr. Chasse since this last February. I am amazed at my results! She has been doing FSM (Frequency Specific Microcurrent), Manual Visceral Manipulation and Manual Lymphatic Draining on me. I have Endometriosis and usually have very painful and heavy menstrual cycles. Also, with breakthrough bleeding and cramping in between periods. For the last 5 cycles I have had very little to no pain. Also, very light bleeding. I can't believe it! I have never felt better! Female chronic pelvic pain can have a complicated pathology and may co-exist with other conditions. Some of the female pelvic pain conditions are painful bladder syndrome (interstitial cystitis), endometriosis, infertility, vulvodynia, vaginismus, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, abdominal bloating and inflammation, pelvic congestion, coccydynia, sacroiliac dysfunction, painful fat cells (adiposis dolorosa, Dercum’s Disease ), dysparunia (painful sex), and dysmenorrhea (painful periods). All of these diagnoses are complex and must be treated by a physical therapist who can integrate information from the adjoining bodily systems.

Enterocele – Organs such as the small intestine can bulge through the vagina. This is more commonly seen following a hysterectomy. This does not mean that after a hysterectomy you are likely to have an enterocele.

The treatment phase is best performed daily for 2-6 weeks, depending on the severity of fibrosis and inflammation. Manual lymph drainage of the affected limb will take 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on size and involvement of the limb. Layered or channeled bandaging must be applied immediately following lymph transport to prevent re-accumulation of the lymph fluid. Therapeutic exercises must be performed with compression therapy and further assist in lymph transport. It is very important to prevent abrasions to the skin; lymph flow in the affected limb is static or sluggish and can quickly cause cellulitis without proper care. The self-care phase consists of performing self-manual lymph drainage, compression therapy, continued healthy skin care prevention, and therapeutic exercise to naturally assist in lymph flow. Treatments should be performed by a competent therapist who has been certified in lymphedema treatment. Lymphology Association of North America certification is the highest level of certification.

Physical Therapy
Physical therapy can decrease the strain that pregnancy places on the body as a woman’s body goes through many changes. As the baby grows, her center of gravity changes, which affects her posture. This results in a shift in the workload of her muscles and a relaxing of her ligaments as they prepare for birth. This postural tension increases muscle tightness in the neck, shoulder, mid-back and pelvis that alter the workload on the body, thus increasing fatigue and pain. Therefore, it is important for a pregnant woman to exercise during pregnancy to increase her endurance, strength and the flexibility of her muscles.

Infertility is sometimes caused by misplacement of the fallopian tubes and ovaries and possible tilting and scarring of the uterus and cervix. The real question is what is causing the displacement and scarring? Manual therapy in the form of visceral manipulation and manual lymph drainage can be very successful for these patients. A 30-year-old woman came to me complaining about severe abdominal pain and infertility. By correcting the visceral fascial restrictions and decreasing the abdominal inflammation with diet and manual lymph drainage, she was able to conceive a child in 3 months.
