I have been coming here since they opened ten years ago. Great food. Pizza, Fried chicken, fish, Italian beef, chicken parm. You gotta try it.
A person can get into a real brawl in this town over who makes the best pizza. Back in the 1970s it was Bruscia's vs Wells Brothers, then it was Mike & angelo's vs Wells Brothers and now it is Bernie's vs. Wells Brothers. I hear different stories from people who grew up around here but supposedly there is a direct link among Bruscia's, Mike & Angelo's and Bernie's. Supposedly the pizza folks from Bruscia's became the pizza guys at M&A and then left there to stat their own place--Bernie's.
No matter, both make first rate, high quality thin crust pizza. Wells Bros crust is almost cracker thin. You are not getting Chicago style deep dish or even NY style but really thin crust.
Bernie's is located in a strip mall on the west side of town, Wells Bros in a sketchy neighborhood on the south side that apparently is the old Italian area in Racine. Place is always crowded and to keep the white suburbanites feeling safe they hire off duty police officers to keep an eye on things and the parking area.
Both places take really good care of you. Back when Bernie's was just a carryout place, they dropped my pizza taking it out of the oven. Pizza chef came out of the kitchen, told me what happened, asked me to wait 10 minutes and he would have a replacement for me. Offered me a soft drink (no liquor license back tne). When the pizza was ready he thanked me for my patience adn understanding and told me it was free. I thanked him but paid anyway. Accidents happen. Why should he be out the cost and time of 2 pizzas? It cost me maybe an extra 15 minutes. No big deal.

Overpriced, rude, and disrespectful to customers. Don't dine in if you don't want to be ignored and wait forever. Sat for 45 mins waiting for 2 hotbeef sandwiches (no fries) while the owners and waitress stood in front talking. Asked where our food was and how long it would be and was ignored. Decided to leave and was harrassed on the way out (after sitting for 1 hour with only water) The owner cussed and screamed at us telling us to never come back. No Problem!! Ridiculous and not worth the trouble.

I first tried Bernie's after "Mike and Angelos" would not take my order at 9:25 pm on a Friday night, when they closed at 10:00 pm. Bernie's had recently started business as a carry out only and I had to dig on the internet to find their number, but I was very happy I did. The Pizza was ready when they said it would be, and it was fantastic. Bernies has just recently opened their sit down addition. If their sit down service can match the courtious service and excellent cooking I have had to date, Wells Brothers will have some serious competition for best pizza next year.
