Vaccination
After careful consideration and research, Dr. Larry and Dr. Beth changed our vaccine recommendations for dogs. Recent research findings coupled with newly developed vaccines that offer a longer duration of immunity prompted this revision. We strongly believe that these recommendations offer the best protection for your dog from endemic infectious disease while minimizing the risks of various problems that are potentially linked to overvaccinating. The protocol is very simple to follow and has been in place for over 2 years. We send reminders to the owners with enough advance notice to make an appointment for their pet’s examination and vaccines (if indicated). In order to ensure the protocol is cost effective, we have added discounts for the yearly exam and vaccines to keep your cost the same on a yearly basis when compared with these services individually. Behavioral Counseling

Nutritional Counseling
We discussed already the potential for short bowel syndrome which can result when a large section of intestine is removed or damaged. In this syndrome, not enough nutrients are able to be absorbed and can result in weight loss and lethargy as well as a host of other problems depending on the specific nutrients that are lacking.
Comprehensive Examination
We will give you a history of the patient and a list of their symptoms. We will then tell you the results of our initial physical exam and let you choose what tests you think should be run to figure out their problem.

Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.
Pain Management
This is the distended uterus on Dolly. Weighing about 3 pounds and filled with foul-smelling pus, it is the source of her discomfort. The ovaries and uterus are carefully ligated and removed intact. The abdomen is flushed with warmed sterile flush and her abdomen is closed with absorbable suture. Dolly is given pain relief and allowed to recover.

In February of 2004, Beth Rooks became Beth May in Jackson Wyoming where she eloped with her husband, Ashley May. (Yes, he was the son of a client. Thanks 'Maggie' May for having skin problems!) In September of 2005, they welcomed Fountain David May to the menagerie and in 2010, Jesse Brinson May also joined the circus. Their own pets include a 9 year old black Lab, "Duke" and a 8 year old yellow Lab, "Ellie Mae" May. In her spare time (ha, ha, ha!), she enjoys cake decorating, canning, and cross stitching.

Leptospirosis Treatment
Due to environmental considerations and the prevalence of leptospirosis in this area, we recommend the administration of yearly leptospirosis vaccines to all dogs (excluding dogs that have a propensity for adverse vaccine reactions). Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Research studies have recently led to the development of the first licensed three-year distemper, adenovirus, and parvovirus vaccine. While previous vaccines were believed to be efficacious for longer than the one year duration, there was no proven duration of efficacy.

Comments: First of all, I'd like to thank Dr. Larry, Dr. Beth, Steve, Sharon, Rayna and everyone else there at your Hospital who make it easier to take care of our pets (who we dearly love). If not for you, our pets would suffer as well as our hearts. Everyone at your Hospital is so helpful, caring, honest, and compassionate. Dr. Larry, you touched my heart when we first brought Bear in. I love her as much as if she were my own child. She calls my name, Helen, when she wants in or out of a room. When she got sick from Thyroid problems, I thought she was going to die. You helped save her from certain death and I can never thank you enough! She makes my days worth living and without her, there would have been a hole in my heart. So, I send you and Dr. Beth and Steve (who orders her meds) a BIG hug for all you have done. I have been wanting to post a "Thank You" for a long time now. I am so glad you are here in Quincy! I would not want to go anywhere else!
Heart Disease Treatment
An EKG (or ECG, for Electro Cardio Gram) tests for the electrical signals of the heart. This test is not indicated at the current time, although it is always indicated during surgery.

Wound and Fracture Care
Wounds were noticed on her neck and she was bleeding slightly from these wounds. After scrubbing and cleaning these wounds, you realize they are puncture wounds, much too large for a snake to make. They are also not bruised as is typical with a snake bite.

Dental Surgery
Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.
Veterinary Surgery
A full service companion animal hospital. It is our commitment to provide quality veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.
Declawing
For neuters and declaws, we use absorbable sutures underneath the skin and surgical glue on the outside. These will dissolve on their own, and do not need to be removed later. Most surgeries, especially tumor removals, do require skin sutures. With either type of suture, you will need to keep an eye on the incision for swelling or discharge. Most dogs and cats do not lick excessively or chew at the incision, but this is an occasional problem you will also need to watch for. If there are skin sutures, these will usually be removed 10 days after surgery. You will also need to limit your pet's activity level for a time and no baths are allowed for the first 10 days after surgery.
Spaying and Neutering
Comments: My father and I have used you for our horses in the past. We've gotten rabies shots here and there for our cats and dogs, maybe a spay and neuter. I never knew how much a good Veterinarian meant to me until I had Cloud. The efforts put forth to save his leg after an attack from a dog meant so much to me. Although Cloud is no longer with us, I'm sure he appreciated the saving of his leg as well. He loved his visits to see you guys. Since he has been gone, I have gained other animals to care for. Laboratory Services
There are many blood tests that may be run on animals. In this case, simple tests that check for liver and kidney function, as well as for anemia could be indicated. They are all normal.

Boarding
Boarding: We provide pet boarding as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.
Grooming
Ward personnel are responsible for animal handling, bathing and grooming, cleaning, feeding, laundry, waste disposal, and running lab work.
