Founded in 1971, AppalReD, also known as the Appalachian Research and Defense Fund of Kentucky, provides legal assistance services to people and groups who cannot afford private attorneys. The organization serves a region of more than 225,000 people. It holds seminars on social security, divorce, domestic violence and wills. AppalReD additionally provides educational programs.
