If you are accused of committing a crime or other misconduct, you need an experienced attorney to lead you through the criminal justice process. A criminal conviction can lead to life altering ramifications and you need to understand both the legal and personal consequences that result from a conviction.
DUI/DWI
If you are charged with a DUI, we will guide you through the procedures for the two separate but simultaneous cases pending against you. Once a law enforcement officer believes you to be DUI, you are issued a citation which starts the process for the criminal case where you face penal consequences. Alongside the criminal case is the administrative case with the Kansas Department of Revenue concerning the status of your license to operate a vehicle.
Misdemeanors
Whether you are charged with a DUI, misdemeanor, felony or are in need of an expungement, one of our experienced attorneys can advise you.
Brian started as an associate with the firm in August of 2017 and is excited to be back home practicing law. A sixth-generation Pratt County resident, Brian grew up on a farm near Byers and attended Skyline Schools. He is a 2014 graduate of Kansas State University, Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, and a 2017 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law. During the summer prior to his third and final year of law school, Brian interned with the firm. Brian’s areas of practice include: estate planning and administration, real estate transactions, business law, and other general civil matters.
A main focus of our firm has long been real estate law. It is an exciting area of the law because of the many and varied issues involved. The first things to come to mind when real estate law is discussed are contracts for sale of real estate and transferring documents such as deeds. In Kansas, all transactions affecting real property must be in writing in order to be enforceable under statute.
Real Estate Transactions
When drafting a real estate contract it is important each party to the contract be identified, the property interest accurately described, and the terms and conditions of transfer properly set out. Real estate transactions often require assessing and planning for various tax consequences. Our attorneys work closely with the client to insure the client obtains the expected outcome.
Land Use and Zoning
Another interesting, but lesser known area of real estate law includes land use planning and zoning. The role of an attorney changes with the issue presented. Most zoning issues are strictly controlled by local ordinance. Zoning ordinances can differ from one community to another. This requires the attorney to review and interpret local zoning regulations for the client and often necessitates the attorney to represent the client at various local boards and commissions.
Estate Planning includes discussions of probate and trusts and much more. One size does not fit all. People are different. Families are different. Estates are different.
