X-rays
Oral Cancer Screening
During your exam, one of our dental hygienists will clean your teeth, identify any gum inflammation or bone loss and evaluate your risk of developing tooth decay and other oral health problems. They’ll also check your face, mouth, neck, and jaw for any abnormalities. Your exam may also include 3D digital x-rays (provides complete visual information that allows your dentist to study your case from every angle) or other diagnostic procedures such as an oral cancer screening.

Teeth Cleaning
To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends regular dental cleanings and regular check-ups at intervals determined by a dentist. At Belmont Family Dentistry, our doctors, Dr. Aaron Tinkle and Dr. Dana Yoon, recommend dental cleanings and regular check-ups twice a year to promote healthy teeth and gums. For those who have more issues with their teeth and gums (e.g., cavities, tooth loss, gingivitis, or periodontal disease), Dr. Tinkle and Dr. Yoon recommend that you receive dental care more frequently to accommodate your current oral health status and health history.
Fluoride Treatment
At Belmont Family Dentistry, we can give you a topical fluoride treatment that will help rebuild weakened enamel and fight tooth decay. While we highly recommend fluoride treatments, they are always optional and voluntary at our practice.
Dental Sealants
According to Mouth Healthy brought to you by the American Dental Association (ADA), sealants have been shown to reduce the risk of tooth decay by 80% in molars. This is especially important when it comes to your child’s dental health. In October 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), released a report on the importance of sealants for school-aged children stating that “school-age children without sealants have almost three times more cavities than children with sealants.”
Space Maintainers
Fixed space maintainers. These are used for young children who may lose a baby tooth prematurely. A space maintainer is used to keep the space open until the permanent tooth erupts–a band is attached to the tooth next to the empty space, and a wire is extended to the tooth on the other side of the space.

Fillings
Fillings are the most common type of dental restoration used to treat cavities or to repair damage to teeth caused by teeth grinding. There are three kinds of fillings: gold, amalgam (silver) and composite resins (tooth-colored fillings). A gold filling is usually the most durable kind of filling. Amalgam fillings are also incredibly hardy, and they don’t cost as much as gold fillings. A composite resin is the most popular kind of filling because it blends in with the color of your teeth. Tooth-colored fillings, though not as tough as gold and amalgam, look the most natural.
Resin Composite
Dental bonding is the application of a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, discolored tooth, to make teeth appear longer, or to change the shape or color of teeth. After the resin is molded and smoothed into its proper shape, the material is hardened with ultraviolet light. After the material hardens, your doctor further trims and shapes it, and polishes the material until it matches the sheen and color of your other teeth.
Veneers
A veneer is a tooth-colored shell that covers the front side of your tooth. You might be interested in veneers if you have chipped, stained, crooked or decayed teeth. During your visit, Dr. Tinkle or Dr. Yoon will make a model of your teeth and then craft veneers that fit your teeth perfectly. A small amount of enamel has to be removed from your tooth before a veneer can be added. Once a veneer is on, you will get years of enjoyment with your new smile.
Crowns
Crowns cover your teeth like little hats. But instead of keeping your teeth nice and toasty, crowns help rebuild damaged teeth back up to their original shapes, sizes, strength, and improve their appearance. When cemented into place, crowns encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.
Bridges
Dental bridges and crowns are restorative options for replacing and restoring missing or damaged teeth. These restorations help to protect the rest of the teeth by keeping them from migrating into the space of missing teeth. Ultimately, the goal of any dental restoration is to bring back your natural smile and prevent future oral health issues, such as loosened or misshapen teeth.
Dental Bonding
Tooth bonding is most useful for repairing chipped or misshaped teeth. Bonding is a process where the doctor attaches or “bonds” materials directly to your tooth to change the color and shape. The natural tooth enamel is then fused together with bonding materials such as porcelain and resins to create a strong structure that feels like your original tooth.
Restorative Dentistry
Full mouth restoration refers to rebuilding and/or replacing all of the teeth in a patient’s mouth. It often requires full mouth reconstruction, combining esthetics with the science of restorative dentistry to improve and restore a patient’s health, function, and smile.

Root Canal Treatment
Dr. Tinkle or Dr. Yoon will also perform a comprehensive oral, head and neck examination to assess the condition of your teeth (e.g., cavities, decay, chips/cracks, root canal problems, or excessive wear); the condition of your gums (e.g., excessive or insufficient gum tissue or signs of periodontal disease); your bite (e.g., pain when you close your mouth or chew, TMJ or jaw muscles); and the appearance of your teeth (e.g., shape, size, color and uniformity). These will all be assessed to establish the extent of the problems and the correction needed.

Deep Cleaning
Scaling and root planing treatment are deep cleaning procedures done under a local anesthetic. Plaque and tartar (hardened plaque or calculus) are scraped away (scaling) from above and below the gum line, and rough spots on the tooth are made smooth (planing). In smoothing the rough spots, bacteria is removed and provides a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth.

Dentures
They are a long-term solution for replacing missing teeth. You don’t have to deal with uncomfortable dentures or have your good tooth structure removed to make a bridge.

Dental Implants
Every patient is different, so there is no one time estimate that fits all patients. After your consultation, Dr. Tinkle or Dr. Yoon will provide you with a treatment plan including the estimated amount of time to complete the process. The time estimate is based on your personal needs, medical and dental history, implant site condition, and the technique and materials used. Simple cases may be completed in a few short months whereas more complex cases may take up to 1 year.

Flap surgery/pocket reduction surgery – involves lifting back the gums to remove tartar build-up. In more severe cases, bone is smoothed to limit areas where bacteria can grow.
Tooth Extractions

Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. Orthodontic treatment includes both fixed and removable appliances used to help move teeth, retain muscles and affect the growth of the jaws.
Invisalign Orthodontics
At Belmont Family Dentistry, we offer Invisalign® to straighten your teeth with custom-made aligner trays. These aligners are made out of clear plastic and fit comfortably over your teeth. Dr. Tinkle or Dr. Yoon will plan out how long the process will take for you and give you your first set of aligners. Then, every 1 or 2 weeks, you’ll trade out your old aligner trays for new ones. With each new set of aligners, your teeth will gradually shift until they are straight and the treatment ends.
Braces
Braces. These are the most common fixed appliances. They contain bands, wires and or brackets, designed to move the teeth to their proper position gradually. Braces are adjusted monthly to bring about the desired results, which can take anywhere from a few months to a few years.
