On 6/7/17 i came in on a recommendation i needed to get my driver side CV axle replaced. Being car illiterate they patiently answered questions in a way i could understand unlike other car repair places i didn't feel dumb or belittled for not know how all the car part work. I was in and out of there in a hour. Being out of work and needing van repair done is a scary and stressful thing to have to deal with. But Matt and his crew not only worked fast but i was only charged $150. I live in the Dells and the prices here were $800 and up. I will be back and will recommend you any chance i get.

We blew out a tire on our boat trailer on our way back from northern WI on 07/28/14. We were still over 200 miles from home and thought we were out of luck. #1 that we would even find the tire size that we needed and #2 that we would find a shop still open. We called The Tire Shop in Portage, WI and spoke to Matt. The shop was already closed but, Matt was so kind to stay open and waited for well over an hour past business hours. We were stuck in Oxford, WI. Thank you for staying open!

worst tire shop

This place is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know how they are still in business. I went here for a used tire, I even called before going. They stated yes they did have a used tire in good condition for $30. I agreed to come in and purchase. After seeing that the tire was in less than good condition he offered it to me for $20 and said it was the only one they had and if it didn't last more than 6 months they would replace it with a new one. After debating I decided to trust them and take the deal. On my way home the tire blew. Mind you I live 10 minutes from the shop. I immediately called the shop. The man stated that he did not believe it blew and if it did it must have been because I drove on it flat and refused to replace it. he stated he had another used tire I could purchase. This place is a cheating and lying company. I would never, ever go back there.

After purchasing four brand new tires from the “tire shop” we had vibrations and the car pulling to the right. I took the car back in and they told me “it takes a while for these tires to seat properly” so they rebalanced them and all four where all over balanced. After two more days I was still having problems so I took the car to another mechanic and was told that the tires were all worn funny and where “choppy” when I took the car back to the “tire shop” I was told that that was the design of the tire. After stating that you are not suppose to put uneven tires on an all wheel drive car I was then told that I didn’t know what I was talking about. My wife later went down and talked to them and she was verbally assaulted and told that “we had to drop the car off at a bar” (where she works) and proceeded to tell her that she didn’t know what she was talking about either. I would not buy anything from this place!!!

scam dont go there. The owner and his workers have no clue how to put on tires let alone work on a car. Iam not even sure if they have degrees let alone HSD. I got tires on car and they mounted them wrong and put 65 psi in when tire called for 40 and put my lugs at 150 ft not 100 worst place to go to. Would not let them work on my moped.

I found this shop purely by chance when I was in Portage on a Saturday morning and realized that I was leaking air in my tire. I was worried that I would not be able to find any place that was open for business on a Saturday at almost noon to check my tire. I was greeted with accommodation and a friendly attitude. At no point during my visit did the mechanic mention that they closed at noon. They fixed my tire when they were in fact closed for the day and I was able to go on my way. I was very pleased with the service that I received here.

This place is definitely been a blessing to me and my husband. We are from out of state and were able to stop here and get our tire fixed on our way back home. The gentleman was more than helpful and we were in and out of there in no time. If we ever make it back up this way we will stop by and bring them some of my homemade apple pie as a thank you for their kindness and efficiency.

Don't go to this place. Even ...

Don't go to this place. Even though their prices are cheap, you'll get what you paid for. Shady work, tires not mounted properly, extra charges, dishonest answers. I took a set of 4 new tires in that were bought from an online retailer. They were directional tires and 2 of them were mounted backwards. After taking the car back to have the problem fixed, I was informed that 1 of the studs had threads that were damaged from someone hammering the nut on from a long time ago and it wasn't from his guys. That was a flat out lie. The stud was stripped from using the impact wrench taking off the nut. So instead of it being free, it cost me another $15 for their screw up. Now, after about a month of having the 2 tires remounted, the valve stem was bad and leaking, plus there was a leak on the rear bead. After being so frustrated and tired of being ripped off, I went to Walmart. They showed me how the sealing surface of the rim wasn't cleaned (any GOOD tire dealer does this), the valve stem area was never cleaned and had crap behind it AND it was never replaced (Tire shop says they replace ALL valve stems). On top of all of this, the old balancing weights were still on the tire and the tire wasn't even balanced (part of a tire mount process!). DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll get ripped of and probably LIED TO BY THE OWNER HIMSELF! Find a better place to go, trust me, you'll be better off and save money in the long run!

I find it odd that "Opinionsmatter2" has written bad reviews for 3 out of the 4 tire shops that are located in Portage. I have no recollection of this person ever having been in to The Tire Shop. I would have personally made sure that all of the issues would have been taken care of if they had indeed happened. We are well aware of how to mount and balance tires as well as how to remove the nuts and replace valve stems and clean rims. This is something that we do many times throughout the day on a daily basis. I hope that this is not someone from another business in town just trying to promote themselves by making false accusations against other businesses.

After previously purchasing tires at other various locations near the Portage area, the Tire Shop is where I will be buying my tires from now on. Matt and Frank were very busy but they easily made time to look up the tires that I wanted and were able to fit me in right away with an appointment. Thanks for great service guys! I am actually looking forward to seeing them next time I need tires.

This place is an asset for small town Portage. In a town that has many places to get tires they go above and beyond here. They not only picked my car up from my work, they brought it back when it was done-no questions asked. I could not believe how accommodating they were. They have my future business that's for sure!
