In the wild, hiding pain, illness, or other weaknesses are survival instincts; many times your pet will have the same instincts, even in the safety and comfort of your loving home, so always keep an eye on your pet's eating habits and behaviors. Recognizing the difference between normal changes in mood and red flags can be difficult sometimes. What you interpret as a persistent grumpiness may actually be a sign that your pet is in pain. New irritability, shying away from being touched (especially on the face and around the mouth or throat), sluggishness, loss of appetite or difficulty eating, and lethargy are all behavioral signs which may indicate illness.
Comprehensive Examination
At the start of your appointment, you and your pet will be escorted back to an exam room by a technician or assistant. If your pet is large, there will be a quick stop at the scale for a weigh-in. Once in the room, the tech will confirm the reason for your visit and obtain a medical history, a temperature, and vitals, and start getting to know your pet. Cats and other smaller pets will be weighed on a smaller scale in the exam room to increase accuracy and keep them safe. If this is a Wellness visit, blood or fecal samples may be obtained now so tests can be started. Before any vaccines or treatments are given your doctor will give your pet a comprehensive physical exam. The doctor will check their ears, skin, eyes, heart, lungs, bones, joints, lymph nodes, abdomen, teeth and gums for anything abnormal. All of these findings will be recorded so they can be discussed with you to formulate plans for future treatment or preventive care.

Our in-house pharmacy is stocked with most of the commonly needed medications such as antibiotics, analgesics, heartworm, flea and tick preventatives, and others. This allows us to dispense the appropriate medication for your pet at the time of your visit and answer any questions you may have. If your pet needs a less common medication or a different form, our online pharmacy can provide home delivery.

After working part-time at a clinic, Dr. Campbell attended veterinary school at Michigan State University and graduated in 1991. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians, The Association of Avian Veterinarians, and the Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians. Her professional interests include exotic animal medicine, surgery, pain control, and dermatology.

In the morning, after a walk outside, vitals are repeated to help ensure safety. After a sedative premedication is given, an IV catheter is placed to provide access to fluids and medications during surgery. An endotracheal tube is used to protect the airway and provide oxygen and anesthetic gas. We use isoflurane gas which is one of the safest available. During any procedure we utilize an electronic monitor to observe the EKG, pulse rate, oxygen level, temperature, etc. Your pet is also physically monitored by a technician throughout its procedure and into recovery.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Regular teeth brushing is the only way to help combat periodontal disease, and if your pet has bad breath then it is a sure sign of a dental problem. Your vet will be happy to recommend specialist pet toothbrushes and toothpaste – just ask!

Y'all I can't rave enough about this place!! Our dog Swayze had to have emergency surgery after hurricane Matthew and they treated her like family. They even sent us pictures of her with Dr. Mary Kay holding her after surgery. Talk about compassion. We recently took her in for a haircut which Swayze threw a fit at. Instead of giving up on her they gave us some ideas and told us to try again! Dr. Mary Kay and her staff make me feel like they love Swayze as much as I do and that makes me feel so glad to call them our veterinarian of choice.
