Ultrasound
Ultrasound, also called sonography, is an imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real time images displayed on a computer screen. Ultrasound is most commonly utilized during pregnancy to monitor the baby’s development stages, and to guide physicians during certain procedures. Ultrasound is used as a key tool to diagnose a wide variety of conditions affecting the organs in the body without the use of ionizing radiation. During the test, patients will lie on the table and will experience little or no discomfort. Depending on the exam, the allotted time could range from 30 minutes to over an hour. The ultrasound procedure may require specific Exam Preparations which can be reviewed prior to your appointment.
MRI
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a form of medical imaging that utilizes pulses of radio waves in conjunction with a magnet to generate images of organs and structures inside the body. The MRI machine may look like a CT machine, but unlike CT imaging procedure, MRI procedures do not involve any radiation exposure. The patients are thoroughly screened prior to the exam and are asked to remove all jewelry to be metal free. During the test, patients lay on a table and the area of the body being studied is placed inside the machine. An injection of contrast material may be needed for further evaluation of the body structure. Depending on the exam, the allotted time could range from 45 minutes to over an hour. The MRI procedure might require specific Exam Preparations which can be reviewed prior to your appointment.

Mammography
Mammography is a type of medical imaging to assess the breast tissue. In addition to acquiring 2D images of the breast, 3D tomosynthesis may be performed where multiple breast images are acquired to create a three-dimensional picture. A screening mammogram is ordered annually for women who have no problems with their breasts. In certain circumstances, a diagnostic mammogram may be ordered to evaluate a new abnormality or to follow-up on a prior abnormality. The patients are interviewed about their medical history prior to the exam. It is important to provide the location where any prior imaging of the breasts was performed so the radiologist can compare the current images to past images. During the test, the breast is placed on an x-ray plate and compressed to make the breast tissue thinner. The patient can experience a little discomfort during the compression that will only last a few seconds. The allotted time for a screening mammogram is 15 minutes and 30 minutes for a diagnostic mammogram. Specific Exam Preparations can be reviewed prior to your mammogram appointment.
Computed Tomography
Computed tomography (CT), often referred to as a CAT SCAN, is a noninvasive procedure that uses x-rays to produce cross-sectional images of the body. The CT images of internal organs, bones, soft tissue, and blood vessels provide greater clarity and more details than conventional x-ray images, such as a chest x-Ray. During the test, patients lay on a table as it moves in and out of the doughnut shaped opening and produces a cross-sectional image that represents a “slice” of the person being imaged, like the slices in a loaf of bread. Depending on the exam, the allotted time could be up to 30 minutes. The CT procedure may require that you drink barium or receive an injection, specific Exam Preparations can be reviewed prior to your appointment.

Interventional Radiology
Over the past several decades, the value of interventional radiology (IR) to medicine has grown tremendously. Many conditions that once required surgery can now be treated using minimally invasive techniques practiced by interventional radiologists. IR allows the doctor to guide tiny instruments (such as catheters) through blood vessels or the skin directly, to the site of a problem, treating a variety of conditions. These procedures generally have less risk and less pain with shorter recovery time than open surgery. Most patients are treated and discharged within the same day, getting back to their life as quickly as possible.
