Fillings
Often times silver fillings look fine on the surface, but have cavities underneath the surface. When the edges of silver fillings look corroded, they begin to leak and allow bacteria under the filling gaining access to areas closer to the nerve. This second molar had a cavity under the filling that was unable to be detected at the surface of the tooth. Only a dentist could detect the cavity on an x-ray. Ponte Vedra Smile Stylist, Dr. Jason Olitsky removed the amalgam filling and cavity from both molars and restored them with tooth color fillings that match the natural anatomy of the surrounding teeth.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are contact lens thin pieces of porcelain that cover the areas of teeth that need improvement. Porcelain veneers can change the color of teeth, shape of teeth, size of teeth, length of teeth close spaces and correct crowding. They can make smiles look wider and brighter.
Crowns
Partial coverage porcelain restorations called “Onlays” can utilize adhesive technology to improve the prognosis of back teeth without the need to crown the entire tooth. In this service, a Smile Stylist will remove the damaged portions of the tooth along with the older fillings and replace those parts with strong and esthetic porcelain. This type of porcelain can bond to the remaining enamel creating a sealed interface between the porcelain and tooth structure. The requirements for this type of restoration is having enough enamel remaining for the Smile Stylist to adhesively bond. If this type of restoration is attempted without enough enamel remaining, it increases the risk of the porcelain piece falling off the tooth. In these situations, the Smile Stylist may opt to utilize more of a conventional crown type procedure with conservative preparation technique.
Bridges
Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. While not considered ideal compared to utilizing dental implants, they are still a popular option for patients who can not have an implant, or would not like to except the risks of implant surgery.
Dental Bonding
Crowded bottom teeth get worn down quickly at odd angles. Prevention of tooth wear by straightening the teeth is important. In this patient, we used adult braces to quickly straighten the teeth that already had worn down, then used dental bonding to correct the wear. The results show whiter brighter straight teeth with braces and bonding on the lower four front teeth. This type of dentistry prevents the need to get more expensive and invasive dental treatments like dental crowns.
Restorative Dentistry
Dr. Jason Olitsky, accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, delivers a high energy and motivational presentation on aesthetic dentistry continuing education for practical dental applications in general, cosmetic and specialty practices. Dr. Jason has a focus of lecturing on aesthetic dentistry related to obtaining proper diagnostics, smile design, preparation techniques for veneers and other all ceramic restorations, managing highly aesthetic provisionals as a prototype for final restorations, adhesive cementation light cure and dual cure, and follow up care. Dr. Olitsky gives practical knowledge on utilizing a camera for photography and video to help communicate with patients, specialists, laboratories and most importantly ourselves. His expertise also extends into restorative dentistry having published over a dozen articles on not just indirect aesthetic dentistry, but also direct composite veneers and general restorative treatments. Beyond lecturing for large national meetings such as The Hynman and The ADA, as well as study club meetings around the country, he is the program director and director of aesthetics for The Clinical Mastery Series, past president of The Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, KOL for Digital Smile Design, product consultant for dental product manufacturers, featured dentist in dozens of beauty and health magazines and CEO of Smile Stylist.

Root Canal Treatment
Getting the bite right. Before you leave it is necessary to adjust the bite to make sure that the teeth interdigitate properly. A high filling can make the teeth sensitive, the jaw sore and even can mimic symptoms of a tooth that needs a root canal. If you feel like the filling is “high” or you feel it first when you bite, make sure you have the situation addressed before it develops into a bigger problem. Getting used to the new bite may not be the answer.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
You can’t underestimate the role the gums play in the overall appearance of the mouth. You can make major improvements to a gummy smile. Excess gum tissue can make teeth appear shorter than they really are, and proportion can be restored with a gum lift, or gingivectomy. Either a laser or traditional surgery can be used, (or a combination of both), but this can depend on your individual condition.

One type of bridge called a “Maryland bridge” is cemented or bonded to the backs of the teeth. This type of bridge can often by done without the need to prepare the healthy teeth next to the space. Adolescents will often get this type of bridge to replace missing teeth, while they finish growing, then replace them with dental implants. There are many factors to consider when gel whitening teeth, such as the type of whitening gel, the desensitizers, the strength of the gel, the contact time, the freshness of the gels, the fit of the trays and even what time of day the whitening trays are worn.
