Oral Cancer Screening
Oral pathology is a discipline within dentistry that is used to identify and diagnose diseases concerning the mouth and lips, chief among them being oral cancer. Whenever a patient comes to see us, we will always perform an oral cancer screening, which only takes about two minutes. By performing a visual and tactile exam and using biopsies if needed, we can determine whether or not a patient has oral cancer and figure out which type it is as well. From there, we can help a patient get the care they need right away, and if necessary, remove any infected tissue or cancerous growths.

Teeth Cleaning
Dental implants are not made from organic materials, such as bone tissue. That means they cannot develop decay whatsoever. The same applies to the restoration that sits on top of the implant. However, it is possible for remaining natural teeth to get cavities and for the gums that heal around the implant to become infected if you don’t practice daily oral hygiene. For that reason, you need to remain committed to a strict routine of brushing and flossing at home and visiting our office for biannual exams and cleanings.

Fillings
Veneers
The results of various dental treatments have different lifespans. For example, if you care well for your dental implants, they have the potential to last for 30 years or longer — perhaps even for the rest of your life. Other types of restorations, such as traditional dentures, might endure for just 5 – 7 years before requiring replacement. Crowns and veneers often last for well over 10 years before they wear out.
Crowns
After you’ve gotten your abutments, your dentist should take care of the rest from there. While you’re recovering from your abutment surgery, a dental lab is busy creating your new teeth from high-quality, natural-looking materials based on impressions of your mouth that your dentist has taken. Once they place your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture, no one should be able to tell you’re missing any natural teeth!
Bridges
Our team highly recommends dental implants not just for their functionality and esthetics, but mainly due to their long-term cost-effective benefits. Keep in mind that dental implants are designed to last as many as 30 years and even longer once placed into the jaw. When compared to other tooth replacement methods, such as dental bridges and dentures, you can’t get the same reliability. As a result, you’ll likely need to replace those restorations sooner, leading to a higher long-term cost.

Deep Cleaning
How we treat your failing dental implant will depend on when the issue is caught. In some cases, we may be able to recommend you to your general dentist for a deep cleaning or antibiotic therapy for periodontal disease. These minimally invasive procedures can help clear out the infection that’s threatening your dental implant and restore your strong, healthy gums. However, in more severe cases, we may need to handle your dental implant salvage personally with a minor oral surgery such as a bone graft. In the worst scenarios, we may need to remove your failing implant and treat the underlying issue with one of our specialized surgical procedures. Then, we may be able to replace it.

Dentures
All-On-4 dental implants follow a similar process as traditional implants, but it is more expedited. The placement procedure and the attachment of the restoration occur on the same day instead of months apart. Basically, small holes are put into the jawbone, where the implant posts are inserted. The back two implants in All-On-4 treatment are angled to become embedded in the densest jawbone tissue and provide instant function. The dentures are immediately bonded in place as well, completing your smile right away. Over time, new jawbone growth surrounds the implants, giving them additional stability and strength.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
For your convenience, we’ve provided some helpful instructions below for both before and after oral surgery. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask the doctor or any member of the staff.
Jaw Surgery
Abnormalities with the jaw can result in a great deal of discomfort, and might even affect how you eat, speak, and chew. Jaw surgery refers to any procedure designed to realign the jaw or correct issues resulting from trauma or a birth defect. Sometimes referred to as orthognathic surgery, it can be performed on the upper jaw (maxillary osteotomy), lower jaw (mandibular osteotomy) or both. Corrective jaw surgery is often required when the upper or lower jaw does not grow at the same rate, or when there has been excessive damage to one or both jaws following an accident. Surgically moving the jaws is then needed to ensure proper alignment and to restore normal functioning. Our surgeons are highly skilled at assessing jaw problems and coming up with a technique to rectify them.

Tooth Extractions
Most general dentists are able to easily perform simple, single-tooth extractions. We often handle more complex types of extractions, including wisdom teeth extractions and multiple tooth extractions.
Bone Grafting
Although Melissa is originally from New Jersey, she attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Today, she has completed advanced training in dental implants, bone grafting, HIPPA compliance, and OSHA compliance. Plus, she has more than five years of hands-on experience! For her, the best part of her job is supporting the growth of our practice.

Orthodontics
Similar to the wisdom teeth, it’s fairly common for the canine teeth (the pointed teeth located towards the front of the mouth) to become stuck while erupting, which can lead to spacing problems that cause a person to feel self-conscious. Fortunately, we can correct this using a minor procedure in which we clear a path and enable the teeth to come in properly. The earlier we can help a patient, the better--addressing this issue at a young age can prevent many alignment issues that may require orthodontics to fix.
Braces
In most cases, the time it takes to straighten the teeth using orthodontics is measured in years, but with accelerated orthodontics, we can cut that down to a matter of months. Using a small instrument no larger than a pen, we can make tiny holes in the gum and bone tissue near the teeth, which will speed up the bone remodeling process that is necessary for them to shift. Performed every few weeks, this procedure only takes a few minutes and is completely painless thanks to local anesthetic, and it can easily shorten braces or a clear aligner treatment by more than 50%.

Teeth Whitening
What to expect: Typically, the wounds will heal relatively quickly. The immediate response, however, may be a slight whitening of the surface with redness of the surrounding skin. Swelling and redness may increase 24 to 48 hours after the procedure, depending upon size and location of the treated areas. There will likely be some flaking and superficial crusting for the first week.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Chafin is a board-certified member and diplomate of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Achieving licensure in 2011, he has gone on to publish many papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as lecture on various topics associated with oral surgery. In addition to his work at our office in Royal Palm Beach, FL, he is also trained in cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetic treatments such as Botox, facial chemical peels, and Juvéderm.
General Dentistry
A Connecticut native, Dr. Weinstein began his college education by attending Emory University in Atlanta. After finishing his undergrad, he went on to obtain his dental degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. Once he finished his two-year general dentistry residency and fellowship, he began his four-year specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael/Yale University, where he was on the craniofacial team and treated complex dental cases such as cleft palates and those that involve various syndromes.
