During your childâ€™s first visit to Collier Dental, we will review diet, home hygiene care, habits, and routines. You are always welcome to remain with your child throughout their entire visit. We encourage you to be an active member of their oral health care. Our hygienists are more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding brushing and flossing techniques, fluoride usage, teeth cleaning and diet. Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
A dental sealant is a preventive dental treatment that our dentists may recommend to protect your teeth from decay. A sealant is made of a clear or tooth-colored resin material, which is painted onto the chewing surface of the tooth. By blocking out the bacteria and food debris that lead to tooth decay, the sealant prevents decay and cavities. The dental sealant forms a smooth surface over the natural pits and grooves of the tooth surface, which also makes it easier to effectively clean your teeth with normal brushing.

Resin Composite
Fillings are what most people associate with going to the dentist. They are one of the most common procedures performed in a dental office. Fillings are indicated when a patient has decay in a tooth that needs to be removed, or they can also be used to fix defects in a tooth. Once the decay is removed, the space is then filled in, hence the term â€œfilling.â€ A composite resin or glass ionomer is typically what is placed in our office. Both of these are â€œwhite fillings,â€ which allows our patients to have dental treatment without worrying about metal fillings being seen in their smile. Dental fillings are carved or molded to look like the natural tooth, and then light cured or allowed to harden on their own depending on the material used.

Dentures
Dentures are a treatment option for patients that are completely without teeth (edentulous) or have decayed teeth remaining that need to be extracted so that they will be missing all of their teeth. There are two types of complete dentures, Conventional Dentures and Immediate Dentures. Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been completely removed and the gum tissue and underlying bone has had time to heal. This allows time for the bone to reshape prior to constructing the denture. Immediate dentures are another treatment option in which the denture is made for delivery at the time of the teeth being removed. One of the positives of this treatment option is that the patient does not have a time period without teeth. However, because the denture is made by the lab prior to the teeth being extracted, the fit of an immediate denture often is not as good as that of a conventional denture. Immediate dentures often require relines to make for a better fit as the body adjusts and heals. Some patients even need a new denture after the body and bone has completely healed from the extractions. With that being said, many patients still opt for an immediate complete denture, because most patients do not prefer to be without teeth for the healing process.

Oral Surgery
IV Conscious Sedation (parenteral sedation) - Intravenous (IV) sedation is another standard method of treatment that is delivered directly to the bloodstream. IV sedation takes effect quickly, and the advantage is that the dentist can control the dose. Your dentist may recommend IV sedation for lengthy procedures like oral surgery rather than routine dental procedures. Dentists require special training to be licensed to administer IV sedation. Dr. John Collier has a current permit to administer IV Conscious Sedation.
