The Vines Hospital (Outpatient)

My child was there for several months and it was the worst experience of our life. There is no communication unless it is on their terms and they only notify you what's going on monthly. As far as daily goings on they shut the parents out and treat you like your inconveniencing them when you try to reach someone.

BEWARE!!!!!!!! Seems over the years patients have many items, new clothing etc. STOLEN by staff!!!! This has been going on for years!! The Vines always have an answer, misplaced, lost so sorry, really take responsibility for the thieves you hire HR department!!! Pathetic!!!!

I read the reviews after we found out where they he was being transferred to. This place is horrible!! I have contacted the ACHA. My brothers is a Vet. They transferred my brother from the VA hospital in Gainesville because of bed shortages to "The Vines". They too had no beds. My brother sat in a room all night. They would not give him his belongings, he was cold and they would not give him a blanket. They out him in a room full of Alzheimer's patients. He is there because if PTSD, grief and trauma.!! We are picking him up tonight!! He has only been there 16 hours. He said the place is horrific and no human should be allowed there!!! DO NOT let your loved one go there!!! They need to be shut down and I am going to help!!!!

Very traumatic experience! I admitted myself for grief counseling and they put me in w/detox clients. My 3day stay turned into a 6 day stay against my will. I never got the counseling I needed and the place was filthy. They locked the clients doors during the day and we couldn't use our bathrooms. The staff was very rude and very disconcerned about my medical problems. Medicines were always two hours late. Half the staff was trained by the hospital... No schooling needed. Cafeteria was filthy and the floor was so greasy it was slippery. I was lucky to have a good roommate but some of the clients were violent to others. I retired from the medical field and could see there was a lot of malpractice going on. For one a woman had a blood sugar over 600 and they told her to drink a glass of water and she'd feel better. She could have gone into a coma. They gave her nothing to get it down. It happened to another about 20 min. apart. There was no housekeeper the whole 6 days I was there. We got clean towels every other day and my bathroom had dead bugs all over the floor. I wrote a letter to the State and copies to my Doctors and insurance company. I felt like I was in another country. I have never been treated this bad in Hospitals up north. I would rate this hospital NO STARS! Do not go here unless you like abuse!

Horrible!!! I checked myself in per my Drs. advice for Grief counseling. After being admitted I discovered I was in a detox unit. I was suppose to be there for two or three days and they kept me against my will for six days. They had a staff Dr......I did not see my Dr. The whole time I was there. I did not get any grief counseling. Most of the staff were very rude, verbally abusive, and if I asked questions they would ignore me as if I weren't there. If I complained they would threaten me that they would tell the Dr. on staff that I needed to stay another day. And they did. Not once did I see a housekeeper in the six days I was there. I have seen gas station bathrooms cleaner than this unit. There were dead bugs all over the floors and who knows what else. There was a woman who would give us clean towels every other day. They kept the rooms locked during the day and I couldn't use the bathroom w/o permission and good luck finding someone who wanted to unlock the door for me. They woke me up at 7 am to wait in line to get my meds at 10 am. The cafeteria was filthy. The floors were so greasy it was like walking on ice. We were forced to eat in a ten minute period so the smokers could get back to smoke. I refused to eat the food several times. I only ate the things I could identify like fruit and veggies. The men weren't kept in their unit. They had to go to the women's unit to get their meds and to go outside to smoke. They were nasty and excited to be by women. A nurse tried to give me detox meds and I refused so she checked and found out she had the wrong chart. I am retired from the medical field and saw so much malpractice at The Vines that I cannot believe they haven't been shut down. One instance is a diabetic woman w/blood sugar reading of over 600 and she was told to drink a glass of water and she'd feel better. They didn't use alcohol preps before nor after poking her finger.Two yrs ago a man was murdered by his room mate at The Vines. I can see how that could happen during shift change.....no one is around... they were all at the nurses station for an hour. I felt more depressed when I left than I did when I went in. I have been having nightmares from that place. I would not recommend this hosp. to anyone. It was a very traumatic experience for me and a lot of others I talked to in there. I don't trust my doctor now for sending me there and am going to find another. He is from India and they may work like that in India but we have rights here in the states and if I had known that I could have signed myself out I would have called 911 when they refused to let me go. They cannot keep you from leaving if you go in voluntarily. Unfortunately I am new to Florida and did not know the laws. I know them now! I will never go into any institution in FL again. They are in it for the money - they keep you as long as they can if you are on Medicare/Medicade or a Private insurance. I felt like I was in Prison being treated by Hitler's people. I give a rating of NO stars! This could be more graphic but I chose to keep it short as I don't have time for every detail of the Negativity of this place.

IN 2012 A MAN WAS SEXUALLY ASSUALTED AFTER HE WAS BEATEN TO DEATH BY HIS CELL MATE. NO ONE HAD FOUND UNTILL AN HOUR AFTER THE FACT. THIS WAS AT 4 IN THE AFTERNOON.



SAME STAFF, SAME POLICIES, SAME TREATMENT. AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE. SEEK HELP ELSEWHERE!

First off, most of the staff are rude, disrespectful, and inconsiderate.

I'd checked myself in and told them I could not be left alone because I was feeling highly impulsive to hurt myself, due to an adverse reaction from a medication I'd been prescribed . Not only did they leave me without a staff member to watch me, they left me with a roomate that threatened to kill me. I told the staff about this repeatedly but absolutely nothing was done; their remark, "she doesn't mean it". Regardless of the patient's intent, I found this both frightening and deplorable. Yet, surprisingly enough, they told me that if I put me hands on her, I'd been given an E.T.O.

The staff are not respectful of religious views, deeming, "believing in God and having a strong spiritual side is the key to your success". As one who is Agnostic, in my opinion, I found that ridiculous and false.

The staff also threaten and actually give E.T.O. for, at times, minor incidents. For example, as I'd witnessed, there was a patient- poor woman- who, or so it appeared, requested stronger pain medication for her toothache. Because the staff did not agree to this, the patient thumped the paper cup she'd been holding down upon the counter but not, as anyone with sense would realize, in hostility.

Moments later, a staff member came over and told the patient she is going to be given an E.T.O. for her "misbehavior".

The staff are also not respectful of the patients' privacies. Though, when I was there, they hadn't spoken about the reason for patients' admissions, they spoke about their treatment plans and of how many times they'd been admitted to the hospital out loud; in front of other patients.

Additionally, the psychiatrist I'd been assigned to tried putting me on Effexor, an antidepressant and medication that I specifically told him that I was allergic to. His remark, they're extended release tablets, just try it one time". I found it offensive that he'd be comparing me to his other patients. Also, again, I've already tried it and experienced and reaction.

Another thing, this may shock others but, upon research, I came across this article: http://www.ocala.com/article/20121201/ARTICLES/121209998 . If supposedly they "check on their patients every 10 minutes", which they don't, I would know, how could this happen?

Alos, the next time a patient is having a seizure, the staff, as I'd witness, should not shake the patient and say "stop it!" because 1. seizures are real and 2. in my perspective, even though who aren't trained should have the common sense and common decency to not shake anyone vigorously like that, especially one who is having a seizure.

Another matter is that they gave a patient the wrong medication before a staff member commented, "see, this is why you should check the cup before you take the pills". In my opinion, this should not be the patient's top priority to check if we're receiving the proper medication, especially for those who cannot communicate properly or have memory impairments.

Now, I know everyone has their opinions and that's fine but- and I'm not sorry for expressing my own opinion- the treatment, or should I say the lack of treatment, I'd received was outrageous and I will never go back to that hospital nor recommend it to anyone, especially for mental and emotional problems.

I have had such a great experience at the Vines hospital. The facility is well kept, neat, and clean. Everyone there is comforting, kind, and willing to go the extra step to help out. I have never met a better, well managed staff anywhere. All of the members of the hospital were always willing to lend a helping hand. I would recommend this hospital to anyone in need.

I could not disagree more! There are some wonderful, caring people there that gave genuine respect and hope to my family member being treated for a mental illness. Not only during treatment but the follow up and after care proved how much they care. We have previously sought treatment at other facilities and have seen a big difference for the better.

The vines is a tremendous place for anyone needing mental health treatment. I called and they were able to get me in right away. The doctors werefantastic and the staff was very kind and compassionate. I was at rock bottom and they helped me get through it. they were also knowledgeable in what they do. they were even very kind to my family who was trying to help out. The hospital was very clean and I learned alot from my counselor. Thank you! The Vines saved my life!

I don't know how they can call this facility a hospital in good consciousness. It is absolutely filthy! It looks clean on the outside and on the inside where the public is allowed to go but where the patients reside the conditions are deplorable.

The floors are constantly dirty, with foot marks, dirt smudges and dried liquid. Every wall has some kind of liquid dripping down to the floor. Surfaces are sticky and dirty. The windows constantly have smudges and dried liquid that was splashed on them and just left there. In the Phone Room there is, what looks like feces smeared on the wall by someone's fingers. Never cleaned.

The staff, not all of them, but most of them are extremely rude. You ask them a question and routinely get ignored as if you aren't even standing there. They are insulting at times and very disrespectful. I was a patient at the vines for my depression and suicidal thoughts. I don't believe being treated like a piece of dirt is a proper way to treat someone who is at this facility to receive help.
