Nutritional Counseling
We carry Hills Prescription Diet foods which come in various formulations to aid in disease treatment and prevention. It is important that some cats and dogs be on these foods to reduce incidence of diseases like urinary calculi (stones and crystals), diabetes, chronic digestive upset, kidney insufficiency and weight management.

Parasites Treatment and Control
We dispense Sentinel heartworm prevention medication to our dog patients to prevent heartworms (which are transmitted by mosquito bites to dogs) and to aid in reducing flea infestations because Sentinel contains luefeneron which interferes with flea egg and larval development. Dogs should be tested before starting this medication if they have not been on a heartworm preventative previously.
Pain Management
Be sure to ask about managing pain with your pet. We carry several types of anti-inflammatories as well as prescribe other medications as indicated. Some of the NSAIDS that we stock include meloxicam, a liquid formulation, carprofen–also known as Rimadyl, and Deracoxib, a flavored chewable tablet.

Dr. Maureen Dorsey is the hospital owner and director. A UC Davis graduate, she began her career in veterinary medicine as a kennel assistant, became a groomer, completed an associates degree in animal health technology, and worked as a virology technician for the Center of Reproduction of Endangered Species at the San Diego Zoo before going to UC Davis for a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. While attending the college, she also assisted in research of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus in Niels Pederson’s laboratory.

Wound and Fracture Care
General surgeries such as ovariohysterectomies and castrations are performed in our hospital using gas anesthesia with monitoring of the patient’s blood pressure, oxygen level, and cardiac function by both mechanical monitors and a dedicated staff person. Post operative analgesia (pain medication) is tailored to the individual animal’s needs. We are also equipped to perform other surgical procedures like removal of growths, abdominal exploratory, wound repair and eyelid surgeries. We do not perform orthopedic surgeries like fracture repair or torn ligament repairs, but can refer to specialists.

Veterinary Surgery

Dental Radiology
We are equipped to do radiographs and have added digital dental radiography to our equipment and perform radiographs on all dental cleanings. Hidden pathology of tooth root disease is best detected with dental radiographs, and proper cleaning of dog and cat teeth is done on anesthetized animals; they just will not lie back and open their mouths for us!
