Secondly, how do your colleagues, as an oncologist, respond to this request for assistance in treating depressive or anxiety disorders? To be clear, our colleagues are not likely to be able prescribe these medications to patients in an outpatient setting nor would it be within their scope of practice to prescribe these medications. In general, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is considered "off-label" in our specialty. This means that there is no FDA approved indication for treating the disorder or that these medications are not used in the clinical setting.
