We have only positive things to say about BOTH office locations. We have been going to the Chesterfield location since our oldest, who is 8, was born. This has been a lifesaver and has helped us avoid any ER visits with our 4 young children. The last thing we want to spend our time doing is waiting hours in an emergency room and we have never had to wait more than 20 minutes to be seen here. Every parent in St. Louis and surrounding areas should know about this place!

HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE!

I took my son in for a head laceration and will never, ever go back there! First of all, they told me they could not glue the wound because they would need to shave the scalp and they did not have any razors. They said the best thing to do would be staples. I consented, but asked for lidocaine or even an injection to numb the area. They said they "did not have anything but a spray that would burn and sting so badly that it is much worse than the pain of two staples." Not ever having gone through staples, I trusted the pediatric doctor and let them do it. Since then, I have learned that it is common practice to Lidocaine a pediatric patient for scalp lacerations, (even if it is just for a couple of staples). Why would an Urgent Care not have any, and why would they not be AT ALL concerned with minimizing the pain for a child! Oh, they did (after I begged them) had me hold some ice on it for 2 minutes) Fortunately, my son cried for 5 minutes or so and then he was ok...physically. It does not end there! Everyone assured us that getting staples out was no big deal and was fairly painless. So, my husband took him back five days later to remove the staples and they could not get them OUT! They pulled and tugged with him crying on the table two different times until my husband grabbed my son and left the office. We took him into our Pediatrician the next day and he had them out in less than two seconds and it was COMPLETELY pain free and he numbed the area FIRST! After seeing the tool the doctor used, my husband told me that the Urgent Care staff had not used a tool like that. They were just trying to PULL them out! We feel guilty because we allowed them to put our son through unneccesary pain because we did not know any better. I'm sure taking your child there for an ear infection or the flu is fine, but I would think twice before you let anyone near your child with a stapler!!

I am the current owner of After Hours (9/2010) and I am horrified by your description of your visit. Our collective goal, as a team of health care providers for children,is to care for all children as though they were our own. You did not get that consideration and I apologize. Please let me know of any other concerns. We send out a survey to all parents after their visit, and I review each one, with my effort being to improving our services. Please let me know if there is anything we can do. Sincerely, Sandy Williams RN, CPNP
