Chiropractic care is an individual experience; therefore, everybody's results will be different. In the early stages of care, it is sometimes difficult to recognize these benefits right away. Spinal Adjustments
Many new chiropractic patients wonder when the chiropractic profession first started. The actual profession of chiropractic, as a distinct form of health care, began more than one hundred years ago on September 18th, 1895. There is even evidence that rudimentary forms of chiropractic care have been performed to promote health since the beginning of recorded time. Some of the earliest healers in the history of the world understood the relationship between spinal function and overall health. Hippocrates advised, "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases". Although there was an understanding of a the relationship of good health and a proper functioning spine, treatment of the spine was widely misunderstood until Dr. Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer discovered the specific chiropractic spinal adjustment. That first adjustment was the birth of chiropractic. Dr. Palmer perfected his new spinal treatments and went on to develop the science, philosophy and art of chiropractic which to this day forms the chiropractic profession's foundation.

X-rays play a vital role in chiropractic. They allow the chiropractic doctor to view your bones and joints with clarity. Chiropractors take x-rays, only to reveal abnormal internal structure and misalignment of the spine, which may be causing functional limitations. They do not order them capriciously or without reasonable merit. Like dentists, chiropractors have always encouraged the idea of early intervention by encouraging "spinal hygiene" instead of waiting until pathology or symptoms set in, as is the way in the medical or allopathic approach to your health. In many cases, caring for an injured patient, without first taking x-rays, is like flying a plane at night without the aid of radar. With x-rays, more can be learned about any possible underlying, unknown disease processes and disorders of the spine such as vertebral subluxation, spinal deterioration, arthritis, abnormal development, bone spurs, disc disorders, tumors and spinal curvature that may be present.
Manipulation Therapy
Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse side effects. That being said, the risks associated with chiropractic are extremely small in relation to other allopathic health care models. Many patients feel immediate relief and improved mobility following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness or a slight aching sensation post treatment, just as they would after performing a new type of exercise. Current literature shows that minor discomfort, soreness and or achy sensations following spinal manipulation typically goes away within twenty four hours.
Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology (a.k.a. AK): This is a diagnostic method created by George Goodheart, D.C. AK is a technique used to diagnose illness or choose treatment by testing muscles for strength and weakness. This method of testing muscle strength can detect disease, vitamin deficiency and other problems.
Acupressure
Acupressure: The practice of applying pressure to specific meridian points on the body to relieve pain. Acupressure deals with all the aspects of a person as a whole: body, emotions, mind, and spirit as one, not as separate parts. It relaxes muscular tension and balances the vital life forces of the body.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture: This is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture uses needles, while acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of the hands.
