NLC Insurance Company was formed in Norwich, Conn., in 1840 by a group of local businessmen. Their primary purpose was to insure homes, farms and public buildings from fire. By 1990, the 150th anniversary of the company, written premiums had surged to more than $33 million. The company has now grown to more than $60 million. NLC Insurance also provides specialized commercial property/casualty insurance programs for rented dwellings, apartments, condominiums, retail stores and a variety of other service businesses. It sells and services its products through more than 350 independent agents throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. NLC Insurance provides claims support, homeowners insurance, insurance for rental homes, automobile insurance, personal umbrella insurance and commercial business insurance.
