I have a beautiful apartment home in the Mt Vernon Apartments in Elizabeth. My apartment is spacious, the rooms are lovely and the view from my deck is spectacular! I have only had to call maintenance a few times and only for minor things like a burned out bulb in my kitchen ceiling light that I cannot reach. The staff is prompt, friendly and efficient. And Teka Eberhardt, the Property Manager, is very professional, knowledgeable and caring about her tenants. The neighbors that I have met are very nice and friendly. I can't imagine living in a nicer home.

Mt. Vernon Apartments is such a wonderful hidden oasis. It's an escape from the city life and noise. It's nice to have apartment living and with the feel of a home especially with the balconies...the staff is so accommodating and the amenities like the pool, firepit, horse shoes it's just a cozy place to call home.

Its a Subsidized public housing. So remember to expect shootings, unsupervised children that destroy the place, druggies, cars with no licence plates, people with 10+ cats who dump them and throw them off 3 story balconies. they allow tenants to smoke in non smoking buildings. The apartments themselves could alteast be built up better. Most of the bottom tenants get flooded out everytime it rains, too expensive for them to instal french drains, but not expensive to replace carpets and paint over damaged walls and ceilings. Sliding door frames are not even, causes problems. They cut down the trees to " have better security access" but did nothing when drug deals were being made in the parking lot, or to prevent crime. Just rethink moving to section 8/hud if your raising a child. My advice would be to find a cheap affordable studio or one bedroom thats not section 8 or hud.

Think about how much your paying.. 30% of your monthly income before taxes. so if your making $1000 and paying for health care and taxes, as well as a vehicle, (theres no bus line in a 3 mile radius) dont expect to have anything left for utilities after forking over everything you have remaining. Lets see. 1000 on average lets say with medical and taxes you get 900, then take out 200 for car insurance, 200 for cable, and take out the 30% from the 1000 (300) that leaves you with 200 left for electric and food and supplies. DO-THE-MATH. ALL THIS for a poor apartment with people you think are going to kill you or hang themselves or OD.
