Please do not surrender your pet or any other animal to the ACC. The best place to surrender an animal is to a no kill shelter. This shelter euthanizes healthy and friendly animals every day due to overcrowding.

However, there are thousands of rescue groups who can help you rehome your pet or find a home for a stray dog or cat. Before you surrender an animal, please make sure you find out if the shelter is a "no kill" shelter. The ACC is not. Go to RescuedPets.org for a current list.

Overall
WORST PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO ADOPT AND EVEN WORST PLACE FOR ANIMALS TO BE RESCUED TO

I BROUGHT A SICK CAT I FOUND IN HALLWAY TO THIS SHELTER,I LEFT MEMO IN COMPUTER IF CAT COULD BE CURED OR MADE WELL I WANTED TO ADOPT.THEY SAID HE GOT WELL BUT FOR SURE WHAT HE HAD WOULD COME BACK .VET COST FOR CAT $1500.LOW COST VET FRI & SAT BUT YOU HAVE TO WAIT OUTSIDE ON LONG LINE.I DECIDED I COULD NOT TAKE THE SICK CAT IF HE WAS GOING TO GET SICK AGAIN I JUST CAN"T AFFORD IT.MY SON ASKED IF HE COULD ADOPT A CAT SINCE WE WERE THERE.OKAY,HE IS 10 AND LOVES ANIMALS.THEY WOULD NOT LET ME ADOPT A CAT BECAUSE I WOULD NOT TAKE THE SICK CAT HOME. EXACT WORDS AFTER WE WORKED SO HARD TO HELP CAT YOU WOULD NOT TAKE HIM.LIKE THEY DID ME A FAVOR, THAT IS THEIR DAMN JOB TO TRY TO SAVE AND RESCUE ANIMALS.MANY PEOPLE THERE HAVE NASTY ATTITUDES AND SOME DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ANIMALS PAPER WORK IS NOT UPDATED.THEY HAD CATS THAT COULD NOT BE ADOPTED BECAUSE THEY WERE GOING ON THE TODAY"S SHOW TV SHOW.THOSE CATS HAD SO MANY REQUESTS FOR ADOPTION AND THEY WERE TURNED AWAY SO THEY COULD GO ON TV TO REPRESENT THIS GOD FORSAKEN PLACE.

Disappointed

My granddaughter recently relocted to NY. She had a cat in New Orleans and wanted another. I went to this shelter today to adopt a cat and surprise her. After spending hours there and selecting the right one; I am told my granddaughter would have to come in with me in order to adopt. The cat will be in my house and my granddaughter is 2 years old. How can Patterson and Bloomberg say the city is in need of money and shelters are turning down money.

They need to update their website and state all household members need to be present for adoption process.
