Odorous house ants are a common ant species that invade Georgia homes. These small black-colored ants are about 1/8 inch long in length. As their name suggests, when these ants are crushed they give off a foul “rotten-coconut” smell.
Spiders
As the days grow shorter and the temperatures finally begin to drop, we look forward to enjoying the mild outdoor weather. Spiders, however, have other plans. Autumn is when many spiders mate, so they’re more active, and they may come indoors looking for partners. In addition, you may see more webs outside as the spiders… Details
Termites
Eastern subterranean termites are a destructive wood-destroying insect that is commonly found in Sugar Hill, throughout Middle Georgia and most of the U.S. They are social insects that live underground in large colonies with three distinct divisions of labor: workers, soldiers and reproductives. The workers are creamy white in color and are blind; the soldiers look about the same except they have an elongated yellow head and large jaws to protect the nest. The reproductives or kings and queens are dark brown or black, larger in size and have two pairs of translucent wings that eventually break off; these discarded wings can be a homeowners’ first sign that they have a termite infestation.
Bed Bugs
Summer means travel, and while you may be looking forward to your annual vacation as a way to rest and unwind, it’s important to stay on your guard for one insect that can become a very unpleasant souvenir of your travel adventures. Nobody likes to talk about bed bugs, but they are an unfortunate reality… Details

Cockroaches
The oriental cockroach is a large cockroach species that is commonly found in Georgia and many parts of the country. Like American cockroaches, oriental roaches are an occasional invader and will enter homes and businesses from the outside. You will find them in damp basements, under sinks, and in washing machines. Adults grow up to 1 inch in length and are a shiny dark brown, black color. Females have a wide body and short wings, males have a more narrow body and longer wings but neither can fly.
Silverfish
Silverfish usually measure between 1/2 to ¾ of an inch in length and their body is teardrop in shape. Silverfish have been appropriately named as their entire body is covered in silver scales. These insects require humidity to survive, but they can live up to a year without food. When they do eat they typically feed on wallpaper or other paper products.
Bees
Bees, wasps, and hornets are also common pests that homeowners face as the weather warms up. These stingers hibernate and come out in search of food and a new nest in the spring.
Wasps
Paper wasps get their name from the umbrella shaped nests that they create from paper-like material.
Ticks
Ticks are an external parasite that feeds on the blood of mammals; there are up to 15 species of ticks that live in Georgia. However, there are three species that most people commonly come in contact with: the black-legged tick (aka deer tick), the lone star tick, and the American dog tick.

Mosquitoes
Atlanta residents feel the pain every spring and summer when the mosquitos seem to swarm everywhere outdoors. With Georgia’s above-average winter temperatures, we are expecting an earlier mosquito season than usual in early spring. Now is the time to start planning on how to get rid of mosquitoes before they even start biting – and keep them out of your homes, yards, and patios for good. We have a few tips to help home and business owners get started.
Flies
We’re lucky to live in a place where winters are mild. Georgia’s temperatures don’t dip too low and we don’t usually have to worry about snow. While it is mild, some bugs are less of a nuisance but there are winter bugs to watch out for, too. We typically look for mosquitos, flies, and roaches… Details

Mites
Springtails
Springtails are a type of arthropod; they are very tiny, only reaching about the size of a pinhead. They are wingless, gray to purple in color and their elongated body is covered in tiny protective scales. Springtails crawl very slowly but have a unique way to jump short distances: they have a fork-like structure that is attached to its hind end and they can fold it under their body and they then release it, projecting them forward.
Gnats
Mosquitoes are members of the same insect order as flies and gnats. They are ¼-3/8 of an inch in length with a round head and slim body; they are pale brown with white stripes across their abdomen. Both female and male mosquitoes feed on the sugars from plants, nectar, and honeydew. However, it is only the female that delivers the painful “bite” that we associate mosquitoes with. The female needs the protein from the blood in order to produce her eggs.
