Danielle is a Certified Physician Assistant who graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. In 2014, she received her Master of Physician Assistant Practice degree from Campbell University. Prior to joining our practice, Danielle worked in urgent care and emergency medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and has joined the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Danielle primarily serves our patients out of the Kinston office.

Internal Medicine
Kayla Hess was born and raised outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received her undergraduate bachelor's degree in Biology and Food Science Nutrition with a Chemistry minor from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2018. Her Master's of Physician Assistant Science was earned at Seton Hill University in 2021. She has experience in Internal Medicine, Acute-Care, and Dermatology. She has comprehensive clinical experience and is proficient in procedural skills, diagnostics, and medical therapies. She was brought to the south by her love for a coastal atmosphere. Outside of the office, you can find her exploring the outdoors, enjoying activities that include her dog, practicing a healthy lifestyle, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Wound Care
Unless otherwise instructed by your doctor, we will remove the stitches seven days following surgery. Before you leave the clinic, we will schedule an appointment for suture removal. If you need to reschedule, call us at (252) 633-4461. If you have any questions after office hours, please refer to your wound care sheet for the phone numbers to contact your treating doctor after hours.
Mohs Surgery
Dr. James Polo graduated from the United States Naval Academy and attended the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, earning a Doctorate of Medicine. He completed his Dermatology Residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. He was stationed as a dermatologist at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune for seven years. During that time, he served as Chairman of the Department of Dermatology and Specialty Advisor to the Navy Surgeon General. Dr. Polo is Board Certified in Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is a member and Fellow of the American Society for Mohs Surgery.

Statistically speaking, patients who have had a skin cancer have a 40 percent chance of developing another new skin cancer within three years. It is very important that you follow your doctor’s recommendations for follow-up examinations.

Dr. Scott McClellan is the primary provider for our Kinston office. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993 and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his Dermatology Residency at Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California and Dermatopathology Fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. McClellan is Board Certified in Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

If a biopsy is necessary, our goal is to make it as painless and trauma-free as possible. We also offer the best therapies and the newest technology for the treatment of acne in teenagers and adults.

Psoriasis
Although adult acne, rosacea, warts, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis are some of the more common conditions that we treat, our staff is also experienced in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of uncommon conditions or rashes, such as cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, lupus, morphea and granuloma annulare. Skin examinations and mole checks for cancer are encouraged and should be done routinely in patients with any suspicious lesions or with any skin cancer risk factors. The cosmetic treatment of benign growths such as skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, hemangiomas and moles can be safely done in the office. We also strive to provide our patients with information and educate them on preventive medicine, especially when it comes to skin cancer prevention.
