You may be wondering why you should pay for professional pest control rather than trying to handle pests yourself. Here are a few reasons you should let experts handle your pest control issues...
Commercial Pest Control
Seitz Brothers Termite & Pest Control technicians are trained to spot early warning signs of pest control problems like termites, bed bugs, ants and other insects. While we offer a number of pest control services that help eliminate common residential pests, we also offer a wide range of commercial pest control services. From the food industry to educational buildings, our team is trained to ensure they eliminate pests in all types of settings.
When you see ants in and around your home or business, it may not send up an immediate red flag. There are many species of ants, most are just a nuisance however there are some that can do real damage to your property. Either way, an ant infestation isn’t something to be ignored and can be hard to get rid of. With help from Seitz Bros., we’ll identify the ants and take the necessary steps to treat the problem.
Spiders
Unlike most other pests, having spiders on your property is not necessarily cause for alarm: they play an important role in the local ecosystem by preying on other insects, and most are completely harmless to humans. There are exceptions, of course, including the black widow and brown recluse spider, but you are not likely to come across these species. Nonetheless, if spiders in your home or business location make you uncomfortable, Seitz Bros. technicians can help you with spider control.
Termites
More than 365,000 homes in the United States are involved in a fire each year. More than 600,000 U.S. homes suffer termite damage totaling over $1.5 billion annually. That is more damage than is caused by all fires, storms, and earthquakes combined. More than 2 million homes require termite treatment each year. Homeowners insurance can help recover losses from fires, storms and earthquakes, but it is almost impossible to carry insurance against termite infestation. This problem effects many cities in Pennsylvania, including Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Stroudsburg, Lancaster, Reading, Trexlertown, Tannersville and Tamaqua, PA.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are tiny, rust colored pests that feed on humans. As they progress through their lifecycle, bed bugs appear differently. Adult bed bugs are between 5-7 mm and about the size of an apple seed. Their bodies are long, flat, and oval-shaped if they haven’t fed recently or reddish-brown and rounder if recently fed. They have wings, but cannot fly, four-part antennas, and a three-segmented beak. If you have a good sense of smell, you may notice an odor that is musty and sweet if bed bugs are nearby. You may think bed bugs are dangerous, but they are not known to spread disease or illness. They bite when they feed off of human hosts and are especially tough to get rid of when they infest homes. This is why they’re considered to be a serious pest for homeowners and business owners.
Fleas
Fleas are about 1/8 of an inch and can jump nearly a foot, which makes it easy for them to stay undetected as they hitch a ride from the outdoors onto your dog or cat. Not only do fleas bite your dog or cat, but they could also lay eggs and create a bigger problem in your home and to your pet’s health. Fleas have the capability to live in carpets, laying eggs between the fibers. As eggs hatch, the problem spreads. You may not know fleas are in your home until you find them on your pet.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are infamous for their ability to survive and thrive in even the most inhospitable conditions: believe it or not, they can survive after losing their heads, hold their breath underwater for 30 minutes or more, and go without food for up to one month. Unfortunately, roaches’ hardiness means that they can be extraordinarily difficult to evict from your home or business. If you are experiencing an infestation, you can count on Seitz Bros. to help eliminate it, as our technicians have many years of experience with roach control.
Silverfish
Despite their name, silverfish are not a small fish but rather a tiny teardrop-shaped insect. They vary in color from white to bluish-silver, have three long bristles on their rear and are typically between 12 and 19 mm long.
Bees
Whether you are a homeowner or a commercial business owner, if you see carpenter bees or evidence of their activity, it isn’t a situation to ignore or put on hold. Experiencing an active carpenter bee infestation is stressful and dangerous. At Seitz Bros., we make the process of finding, treating, and eliminating the problem a quick and efficient process.
Wasps
Paper wasps are typically around one inch long, with the smallest measuring at half an inch and the largest as long as one and a half inches. Their bodies are a dark shade of red, reddish brown or yellow. They prefer to make their nests in areas that are exposed yet difficult to reach, such as the corners of windows, the undersides of porches and decks, or within attics if they are able to find a point of entry.
Ticks
Ticks are common across the United States, and there are over 25 species in Pennsylvania alone. The four species that you are most likely to encounter include the American dog tick, the blacklegged tick, the lone star tick and a brown dog tick. Ticks can cause Lyme disease in both animals and humans, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) in humans and tick paralysis in animals and young children. Finding a tick on your body or in your dog’s fur doesn’t automatically mean that you will experience health issues related to tick bites, but it’s a risk that no one wants to take.
Crickets
Earwigs
Mosquitoes
Whenever a mosquito infestation is around your home or business, it can make time outside miserable for anyone on your property. When mosquitoes are impacting the comfort and safety of your home or business, it is time to call in the professionals at Seitz Bros. Pest Control.
Flies
They live in paper-like nests, with a honeycomb interior. They need a branch or twig to start the nest on. If the queen is not removed, the nest will be rebuilt quickly. Like many types of wasps, they are beneficial to the environment, except when they are in the vicinity of humans. The nest must be removed, and treated. These wasps enjoy feeding on caterpillars, flies, and beetle larvae.
Centipedes
Millipedes
Beetles
Cigarette beetles are between 2 and 3 mm in size and prefer rice, raisins, seeds and spices. Drugstore beetles are typically 2.5 mm and are attracted to dry pet food, flour and cereals.
Hornets
Nests are located in elevated areas, usually in non-visible areas such as in bushes and shrubs. The over wintering queen chooses the nesting area. Some nests have been found over two feed in diameter. Whiteface hornets are beneficial because they assist in controlling various small insects.
Yellow Jackets
We recommend you stay away from the nesting area and call us ASAP. We will come out and treat and remove the nest from your property. Yellow jackets are an insect covered by our Seitz Brothers Pest Control Home Protection Plan.
Moths
Indian meal moths are the largest of the pantry pests with adults measuring at about 9mm. Meal moths will invade a variety of foods from dry pet food and grain to powdered milk and candy.
Stink Bugs
Stink bugs are numerous throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey which means you are likely to encounter them in your home or business location. The experts at Seitz Bros. have many years of experience providing stink bug control services, and you can count on us to help drive these bothersome insects away from your property. It’s best to not deal with getting rid of these pests on your own; instead, call a professional and let us take care of it.
Pantry Pests
When pests take up residence in your home, one of their favorite spots often includes your pantry. Not only do pantry pests make a mess, but they destroy your food supply and are difficult to eliminate. The expert pest control technicians at Seitz Bros. have experience identifying and treating all types of pantry pests, so that you can keep your cabinets and food storage safe and clean.
Stinging Insects
When it comes to diagnosing a pest infestation, it is important to note the differences between species of stinging insects. Although different varieties of stinging insects may look very similar, stinging insect control measures vary across species.
Mites
Springtails
Aphids
Other dangers. Bees and wasps can not only be terrifying, but deadly if they sting the wrong person. Aphids can stop the proper growth of fruits and vegetables in your garden. There are nearly endless ways pests can cause problems.
Birds and bats are important parts of the local ecosystem, but when they get into your home or business, they can be irritating, destructive, and even pose a potential health hazard. At Seitz Bros. offer bird & bat control services to address any bird or bat infestation, so we can ensure the continued success of your business and protect your and your family’s well-being.
Moles
Evidence of vole activity includes the presence of above ground tunnels. Moles create characteristic “mole hills” which look like mounds of dirt.
Raccoons
Raccoons can do damage to your home and potentially cause health issues for residents. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there are several diseases transmitted by raccoons, which include baylisascaris procyonis, tularemia, roundworm, rabies, and tuberculosis.
Wildlife
You’ve invested in your home to make it comfortable and safe for loved ones, but wildlife in the neighborhood can change that feeling of security quickly. Wildlife often search for food and water resources along with safe locations to have their young, they are drawn to locations where these resources exist and are accessible, which can be your yard or inside your home. Both situations pose a serious safety threat to your home and family. When faced with wildlife inside your home or around your property, you need the professional services of wildlife control specialists.
Opossums
Opossums inside the home can create significant damage. When building a nest, they will seek out materials for construction, which can include insulation in the attic. For homes with drop ceilings, an opossum’s weight may be enough to cause them to fall from the attic area to the interior of your home. They can often get stuck between the walls when trying to look for food. Their waste can cause stains on ceiling tiles and create a strong and ongoing odor throughout the home. Their waste is also known to carry parasites as well as the growth of bacteria.
If you notice that birds have begun to settle in around your property, you can rest assured that our expert technicians are prepared to drive them away. We have a number of low-impact bird control methods which will effectively eliminate the infestation without inconveniencing your family, customers, or employees.
Health concerns, property damage, impact on your business reputation, along with not feeling safe and secure in your home are reasons to contact Seitz Bros. for professional rodent control services. Our experienced team of technicians are highly trained in the proper methods to remove rodents safely.
Mice
House mice are the most common type of rodent that infests homes in Pennsylvania. They are 2.5” to 3.5”, weigh about 1/2oz to 1oz, and have fur that is typically gray, turning to white on its underside. Mice are explorers. The will travel around your home, attempting to find new food. When new construction is done, they will inhibit the structure. Their nesting sites are usually dark and secluded, making spaces such as attics a common infestation area. Both homeowners and business owners suffer from house mouse infestations every year. Because they are so heavily populated, house mice have adapted to thriving in alongside humans in urban and residential structures. Although mouse activity is heaviest in the fall and winter when they seek out shelter from the cold, mouse infestations can happen year-round.
Rats
Rats will seek food outside, but many times will come inside at night to forage for food and return to their burrows. They can travel hundreds of feet which could mean that you are suffering from your neighbor’s rat issue. Needing a water source, they can obtain water from toilets, sinks, rain puddles, or condensation from utility pipes. Their nesting burrows on the outside are often along the foundation of walls. As the rat family grows, more burrows are built, resulting in a network of underground tunnels. Outdoors, rats scavenge for fruit from trees growing on your property, and even dog droppings.
Squirrels
Squirrels are adept at finding their way into the cozy confines of a home. To get inside, they will chew materials to create an opening. This includes chewing through wood, house siding, and roof shingles. Once inside, squirrels continue to chew on items such as insulation and wood. They also chew electrical wiring creating a fire hazard for your home.
Voles
If you have a healthy lawn, a vegetable garden or ornamental trees and shrubs, you could attract voles. Because they mainly eat vegetation and plant roots, thriving plant-life is a perfect place for voles to live. Voles need to eat their body weight in food every day to survive their short lifespan which averages one year. Without an environment that is rich in easily accessible nutrients, voles cannot survive. Voles do not hibernate or hoard food so they are forced to scavenge for food every day.
