Arachnophobia consistently ranks amongst the top fears in America. After all, who wants a venomous creepy crawler roaming their home? Taking precautions can go a long way in preventing chance encounters with spiders in your home. While not all spiders are considered to be bad, some pose dangerous health risks to humans or animals that [...]

Fleas
Roughly 80 species of fleas can be found living in Colorado, which is among the largest number found in any state; however, flea infestations around the home and on pets are not nearly as common as in other areas of the United States. Colorado’s typically dry climate is not favorable for the immature stages of fleas. Only a few species of fleas are involved in bites inflected on humans and domestic pets. In general, fleas are small at only 1/13 – 1/18
Cockroaches
Proper identification of the pest to be controlled is of the utmost importance. Although pests may look similar, their behaviors and potential for harm may vary greatly. For example, certain species of cockroaches prefer cool areas whereas others prefer warm locations. This knowledge is vital in both the monitoring and treatment phases of the process. Knowing what measures to use as well as when and where to use them are key factors in the control process. In urban settings, thresholds are commonly determined based on three factors: levels of pest tolerance by the customer, any legal restrictions on pest infestations, and any health risk associated with the target pest. Based on these factors, it is possible for an established threshold to be zero, although it may be higher as well.
Bees
Stinging insects such as wasps, hornets, yellowjackets and bees are common summertime/warm weather pests that often pose a threat to humans and animals alike. For some, these threats can be deadly depending on the type of allergic reaction experienced. For those who do not experience allergic reactions to individual stings, there is still the potential [...]
Wasps
Control strategies include habitat modification, changes in human behavior, pesticide applications, monitoring (including the use of traps), and pest exclusion. Typically, the first measure employed in the control of a target pest is sanitation. The elimination of harborage areas and removal of food and water sources requires cooperation from the customer as they are frequently responsible for a majority of these procedures. Once any sanitation issues have stinging insects addressed, additional mechanisms can be utilized to obtain the desired level of control. Physical control methods such as exclusion or traps are often used to prevent pest entry or establishment within an undesired location. Habitat or environmental modifications focus on methods to prevent a pest from becoming established or spreading. Often this requires changes in behavior from the customers such as restricting food consumption or preparation areas in order to remove potential food sources. Biological control uses predators, parasites, or pathogens to control pests. These control measures may include nematodes, fungus, parasitic wasps, or in many cases the use of Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs). Chemical control including the application of pesticides is, in some cases needed as the first method of control due to the need for immediate reduction or elimination of a pest problem. In other cases, pesticide application may only be utilized in conjunction with other forms of control. Pest professionals often employ multiple control methods at each location they visit. Evaluating the effectiveness is the final step in an Integrated Pest Management plan. Follow-up visits and inspections are often necessary to determine if additional actions are needed in order to manage or control a pest population.
Ticks
Proven: Applied at very low rates (just 0.05% and 0.06%), the active ingredient in Premise or Termidor has stinging insect used around the world on cats and dogs for flea and tick control, and on agricultural crops to protect food supplies. Registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), both Premise and Termidor are virtually odorless.

Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, is a pest control practice in which two or more methods are utilized in order to achieve the desired control of a target pest or pests. In general, IPM provides effective control of the target pest(s) through monitoring of pest levels in which a threshold level has stinging insects established in order to determine the necessary measures in which to reduce or limit the population levels.
Mites
While outdoor allergens are prominent during the warmer months, pests within the home can be a major trigger for allergen sufferers year-round. Keeping dust mites, rodents and cockroach activity under control in a home will decrease the likelihood of these allergens triggering an allergic response. Although dust mites are not commonly treated by pest control [...]
Springtails
Th of an inch and dark reddish-brown in color. Fleas are blood feeders with specialized mouth parts to pierce skin and consume blood meals. Hind legs are well-adapted for jumping, which can sometimes result in other insects being mistaken for fleas including springtails and flea stinging insecttles. Adult fleas are flattened laterally and wingless. Eggs are laid in areas frequently utilized by the host animal. Larval stages of fleas are rarely seen and do not feed directly on animal blood, instead they feed on the blood-rich waste from adult fleas. Low humidity prolongs the developmental stages, sometimes for months at a time in order to reach the adult stage. Full grown larvae move to small cracks and produce a cocoon covered in debris. Emerging adults seek out blood meals from nearby hosts.
Gnats
These units will catch all flying insects including flies, gnats, moths, and mosquitoes. Each two (2) bulb unit will cover approx. 900-1000 sq. ft., so multiple units may be necessary depending upon how much square footage you want to cover. Each ILT can be wall-mounted approx. 3-5 feet up off the floor and will require a 110v electrical outlet, and the power cords are about 6-8 feet long.
The most common flea associated with bites in humans in Colorado is the human flea. Ironically, human fleas are typically associated with wildlife such as skunks, foxes and coyotes. Bites to humans are usually encountered when wildlife dens are abandoned leaving the fleas to disburse in search of a new food source or when an overly curious person comes in close contact with a den site. Fleas are then picked up and transported directly into homes on people and/or their pets. Bites on humans normally appear as itchy, red spots that are surrounded by a red halo. Clusters of bites are common and are commonly found at the edges of clothing. While some people are fairly immune to flea bites and may exhibit little reaction, others may experience severe reactions.
Our first step in our pest control process provides your home with the strongest protection against pests is to start on the outside. Since most of the pests that invade your home start on the outside, your first line of defense would be around the exterior perimeter of your home as well as the surrounding areas of your home (about 5-10 feet from the foundation). The exterior perimeter demands a high priority when it comes to treating pests and rodents.
Mice
When it comes to diet, mice and rodents have specific preferences, but they will eat any type of food that they find. There are two different methods to help aid in keeping your home rodent-free. First, do not provide them with access to your food. Store your dry goods (cereal, rice, grains) in hard plastic sealable containers that cannot be chewed through, and secondly, by sealing any access points to your home or your business, as we mentioned above. However, there is a general misconception that mice will eat or chew electrical wiring or wood, but that is not the case. They are simply chewing or gnawing on these materials to sharpen their teeth.
Rats
When rats, mice, and other types of rodents invade your home, they can create problems ranging from structural damage to carrying diseases. Our technicians are trained in the most effective rodent control methods. We will inspect your home or business for signs of mice or rats, locate and point out any potential points of entry, and create a custom treatment plan for your home or facility.
