There are several species of spiders in South Carolina that have venomous bites that cause serious health conditions or death. Outdoor pest control is a way to prevent these bites from happening. Ticks
Ticks are a small variety of arachnid that can transmit diseases while ingesting blood from hosts, including humans, farm animals or family pets. Huge populations of ticks thrive in humid climates where there are numerous hosts and are more likely to live in rural areas. The most common disease transmitted to humans is Lyme disease that causes chronic symptoms and is difficult to treat. However, there are other rarer diseases that are contracted from tick bites, including...

There are certain types of animals that people do not want living near the exterior of a home, including skunks and bats. Skunks create a horrible odor when residing near a home or business, and the scent attracts more of the animals. Bats are a mammal that often carries the rabies virus that leads to death when transmitted, and this animal also leaves smelly waste underneath its living and breeding site. In South Carolina, there are regulations concerning the protection of wildlife, and to remove these animals, an exterminator must have a permit. Island Pest Control possesses that permit, and we will assist you with all of your outdoor pest control needs.
Moles
Raccoons
Raccoons are omnivores famous, or notorious, rather, for their curiosity and dexterity. These pests are nosey and will get into just about anything: trash, garages, under porches, etc. Unfortunately, raccoons often have rabies. To make matters worse, a rabid raccoon often shows no symptoms, so you will have no way of determining just how dangerous the racoon that plagues your home or commercial building is until it’s too late. Raccoons can, of course, transmit rabies by biting, and the virus can attack many mammal species — including humans. Because of this, raccoons are extremely dangerous to you, your family, and your pets.

We look forward to being your Hilton Head exterminators, from pest control, to wildlife removal, our highly trained technicians are ready to serve you.
Opossums
Opossums have the distinction of being the only marsupial (or pouched animal) in North America. They are also known for their ability to feign death. Opossums are omnivorous and will eat carrion which means they will often dig through garbage or waste disposal facilities of suburban areas. Opossums also steal pet food and can get into fights with pets. Adult opossums weigh around ten pounds, making them roughly the size of a house cat. Opossums can become nuisances by infiltrating your home or by creating a habitat under your porch. They are dirty, malodorous animals that carry a number of diseases and parasites.
Armadillos
The nine-banded armadillo lives in a dozen southern states including South Carolina. These critters can carry leprosy. Most complaints having to do with armadillos involve their destructiveness; armadillos live in burrows that can be up to 25 feet long, and these burrows will ruin your meticulously manicured lawn. Tunneling armadillos can also damage the roots of shrubs and trees in addition to damaging concrete slabs that make up your home or commercial building foundations. Armadillos feed on various invertebrates including grubs and insects, and they dig holes while hunting for their prey.
Eleven diseases directly transmitted by rodents. Not only do you NOT want these critters in your home, but you definitely don’t want what they can bring in with them.

Squirrels
If your grass grows too long near your house, many critters can be hiding in it. To keep animals and insects further from your home, keep your yard well cut. Additionally, keep any firewood you may have at least feet from your home. It’s important to realize that bugs can be living in the wood or in your grass, so keep distance between those bugs and your home. Any tree limbs that hang over your roof or very close to the side of your house can introduce squirrels and other rodents to your home as well. If tree branches or shrubs come into contact with your house, it’s best to keep those trimmed back as well.
