Overall

We rented Karen's listed property at 5318 S. Civano in Tucson for 8 months and had a negative experience. Right off the start, Karen advertised an open house for the home that she did not attend, we had to remind her she had scheduled the open house. Shortly thereafter, we signed a lease with Karen where she charged us more than the state allowed for a security deposit. The hot water was initially not working in the home, it took her about a week to get it fixed. We had a similar situation with the locks on the door where we went almost a week without lockable doors. Communicating with Karen was difficult as she often wasn't reachable during normal business hours (especially Wednesday), but she would return phone calls or send text messages late at night. Our first communication difficulty was when she called to tell us we hadn't paid rent and that she would be charging us a late fee. After asking her if she had actually looked in her account (as we had direct deposited the money via the account info she gave us when we signed the lease), she was surprised to find that the money had been there all along. The final straw for us was the move-out and security deposit. There were no more than 8 screw holes in the walls from 2 separate TV wall-mounts in 2 separate rooms. Karen retained $285 of our refundable portion of the security deposit to fill those 8 holes. Karen used the money to repaint the 2 rooms even though on the walk-through she assured us the holes "won't be a problem" and that we could expect to get our whole deposit back. Of course she realized that we're military and were forced to move out of town and it is not economical to take her to small claims court over $285 when traveling would cost twice that. We would avoid this real estate agent at any cost, as she has been the source of so much stress to our lives we wish we hadn't been subject to.
