Michael J. Reid was born in Brooklyn and raised in Westchester, New York, then moved west and studied medicine at University of Oregon Medical School. He initially did a residency in General Practice and then completed a residency in Pediatrics at Stanford. With an interest in the intricacies of the immune system, he went back to Stanford for a prestigious Fellowship in Allergies and Immunology. Dr. Reid has spent many years teaching Internal Medicine residents, Pediatric residents, and Medical students. Dr. Reid is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. In addition to his private practice in San Francisco, he is also affiliated with California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Seasonal allergens or exposure to pets or dust mite allergens are common causes of sinusitis. In fact, sinus infections are the #1 complication of allergies. Unresolved cold or flu can also lead to sinus infections. Acute sinus infections may resolve on their own, but some people will require antibiotics for acute or chronic infections. If the problem is chronic, we may need to get an X-ray or CT scan of your sinuses. Sinus infections may be prevented by getting allergies under control with medication or allergy shots. Daily sinus rinse (such as a Neti pot) may also be helpful.

Dupixent: Dupixent is an injection medication which treats moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, which is an inflammatory skin condition that causes red, itchy, cracked skin. It also has been approved for add-on therapy for moderate to severe asthma as well as nasal polyps.

Allergies
Allergy to penicillin and related antibiotics is the most commonly reported drug allergy in the United States. An allergy to penicillin is the only one that can be diagnosed through skin testing. Allergy testing can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours including the time that is needed after the testing to watch for reactions. Your testing will include 2 types of skin tests as well as an oral challenge with penicillin, if deemed necessary.
