These people are extremely rude. I stopped by this church to let them know about an interdenominational event we were having at the church I attend, and the person who answered the door of the office was rude beyond belief.

I tried this church 3 times to...

I tried this church 3 times to give it a fair shot, but I can't take it. I am a single guy in my 30s and I don't think they want anyone like that there.

The first Sunday I went, I came in, sat down and saw people stare at me, but not speak to me. This included the people on my pew. I thought it seemed odd for a packed church. However one older couple did invite me to lunch after and that was nice. I had a good time with them, but no one else was friendly. However, I decided to give the Young Professionals Wednesday night class a try.

I went to that and the lesson was scriptural but no one talked to me before and only like 3 out of 45 spoke to me after, and even then just a brief church nice cursory bit. I then gave it a final shot the next Wednesday night and it was more of the same. The church is 2/3 filled with elderly people who look and act like they stopped caring in 1970. Only one elder came up to say hi, and the preacher is dull as dirt and very unfriendly.

The hilarious part was near the end of the lesson, the elder teaching mentioned how they needed to be more open to visitors. One girl spoke up with a story saying Yeah we really ran this one girl off... blah blah So right after the class ends and yeah a few more talked to me.. maybe 7 of 45 this time, but you could tell it was in a just ugh fine.. I'll do it manner. Each time I waited until I was nearly the last one there too, not just running off. Well as they leave they talk about going out to eat and form groups but no invitation came my way. Most of these people are married couples and you can tell they don't care about or want singles there at all.

I then tried to see a photo board to get to know names and faces, and to see who in the world the elders are, but they don't have anything like that. You can stand in the foyer around 30 people who will stare at you but not utter a word. I understand that from kids, but 80 year olds?

They are VERY proud of their historic building but they don't want any new people. I did get one postcard and one older man visited. Those were nice. But It's easy to just zip of a letter. They don't care when you're there. It's funny because I got a letter from the preacher but in person, he ignored me twice then I tried to talk to him the last time and he just walked off.

I'm no stranger to the church of Christ, being 5th generation. I have visited over 70 easily and this one is just not friendly. Most of their membership is very elderly or college/transient and they need to wake up and get more members.

It seems they just don't get it. Why would I want to attend a place where no one knows me or cares to make the effort. In this church, as well as others, I get the sense they might be more open if you become a member, but it's a catch 22 because why would I want to be a member of a place that treats visitors like junk?

Very Unfriendly Church

I visted East main Church of christ for the scond time while in Murfreesboro tn. I found this church to be a (very) unfriendly Church!! The first time, (no one) acknowledged me or spoke to me, No One! I was surprised, and i had spoken to a few people and they just Looked at me. Now since i am a normal looking white Female , i thought oh well, i will give them another try. I did on another Sunday worship service, and again for Sunday evening. At Sunday worship, a man and a woman did acknowlede me with hi, but that was it..there were almost ( 400) people for Sunday Am worship and only (two) people acknowledged me. I thought ok I will go back Sunday evening and see what happens.. This was now my 4th service i had attended at East main. This ttime i spoke to several people and I made the initive. I mentioned that not many people spoke to me after being asked what i thought about East main. I was told by more than one peorson, that there were 5 elders there, but that you would do good to get 2 of the 5 to speak to you, and only then (they) happened to run into you!! they also said this was a very (cliqueish) church and had (always been that way, but that you got used to it.

I have attended Churches of Christ all of my life, and i have to say, this oen is the most (unfriendly) i have (ever) attended!

One other thing i noticd about the song leaders. They seem to have adifficult time singing a song (below) the 700 level in the book?? what is this about?? they (exerimented with several songs...and while i guess that is ok what is wrong with singing the Old standards??? they sung None of them?? The song leader semed a bit upity as well....and seemed to want (perfection)>>well i thought as long as your heart was in the song that was enough. Apparently not enough for this guy forgot his name but he is bald and tall.

WEll as for me, i want friendliness from a congregation and a songleader that sins some Old standards as one song over 700 or 800 ok but All of them?? I say pick another church in Murfreesboro i did Kingwood heights, Much friendlier Church!!
