Door Installation/Replacement
A: Shrinkage is one of the most important considerations when deciding upon a log home. In a 20’ high wall there might be ¾” to 1” of settling in a dry log home. We can easily accommodate this by proper design and construction techniques like settling spaces above windows and doors and other methods. With minimal shrinkage like this we can offer full log gables. A green log home might settle as much as 1” per foot or 10% of each log.
Framing
Purlin can be susceptible to danger even if it does not extend beyond the line of the roof if the fascia does not adequately cover it). These elements realize an increased exposure to the elements and have horizontally-aligned surfaces that can be slow to shed water and may even accumulate it if there are open checks. Foundation Installation

Landscaping and Fencing

Landscaping
One of the most easily fixable, yet potentially damaging, concerns is centered around landscaping that is too close to the home. Vegetation limits air circulation and tends to shade and trap moisture in an area where you don't want it. Use common sense here; the more you can trim it back, the better.

Window Installation/Replacement
Sealants and gaskets at joints and corner intersections had substantially reduced air-infiltration rates. The study concluded air leakage in a well-built, modern log home is not due to its log walls. In fact, in the 23 homes studied, it found air leakage occurs in the same places it occurs in conventional frame homes: at the top of cathedral ceilings, around window and door frames, and along the tops of walls where they join the roof.
Gutters
Some of the most detrimental damage that we have seen involves gutters and downspouts that are not working properly. Clogged gutters, improperly sealed connections, or gutters that do not extend far enough to capture all cascading rainfall from the roof, will concentrate water exposure and limit the ability of your logs to dry out. If not immediately addressed, such long term exposure will be quite negative in its effects.
Siding
The owners of this home in Maple Valley, Washington wanted to replace the deteriorating Cedar siding with a much more durable metal panel, falling in-line with the already modern angles of the structure.
Porches
Rather than a conventional foundation, concrete piers similar to the existing construction were utilized. Appropriately-sized logs were sourced and placed. Where porches remained, new, larger columns were introduced to replace the smaller, existing ones. The roof was conventionally-framed and all new 24 gauge standing-seam metal roof applied.
Residential Roof Repair
A: Roofing is based on owner preference. We do typically see, however, 80-90% of our clients using metal roofing in a green or blue color. Factors to consider are initial cost, expected life, municipal fire-rating requirements, and effects on insurance.
Residential Roof Replacement/Installation
The goal of this project was to provide a complete covering between the home and garage in a unified way. The existing, low-headroom porch roof was first removed and then connecting structure constructed. A clerestory concept was introduced to further the barn theme as well as introduce a large amount of natural light. To complete the package, matching roofing and gutters were installed to manage the Northwest rainfall.

Insulation
"NOT SO! After a certain amount of insulation has reached optimum, the overage of insulation is waste and does not justify the additional cost.
Caulking
Sealants including caulking and chinking. Make sure that no new significant skyward-facing checks have appeared or that previous applications have torn or pulled away from their bonding surfaces.
