California Shooting Sports

I used to think this place might not be the typical gun shop with arrogant, minimally informed low level personnel. Well, we went to use the range, filled out all necessary forms and hear how they're running things. So, this big...so and so...interupted my buddy's friendly chatter and threatened to ask him to leave.
Huh!?
Because he thought we didn't hear the rules.
Huh!?
I look at the big, unhappy, unfriendly clerk who escalated a non incident "1" to a threatening "8" in one and a half seconds.
My buddy, being a skilled law enforcement professional in his past, simply played it off as one might an obnoxious drunk.
However, we're customers.
We were following rules.
We were amiable and easy going.
Was he drunk?
Was he emotionally unstable?
He certainly was rude, at best.
I, not being as nice as my buddy, told the clerk he was rude and escalation was unwise and bad business.
After shooting there (NEVER AGAIN) we drove directly to Alquist Arms in Turlock and made firearms purchase.
I've never been greeted with anything less than a cheerful, helpful, patient and knowledgeable service at Alquist.
I cannot say that of California Shooting Sports in Modesto. Sad.

Professional staff, clean & well lit range, convenient location.

No stock, place is a mess with food all over counters and employees to busy talking to each other then helping customers

New to indoor ranges. I am sold on this one. Clean, professional, and the asked for help was immediately dealt with. Ammo was not an issue. I asked, I received. Not to mention at a fair price. I was not gouged on ammo and I appreciate that. Thanks' guys. You will succeed!!!!

I am new to guns and was very nervous when I signed up for their gun safety class. Tyler was a great teacher: he kept things simple and didn't use a lot of "lingo". When we went into the range to shoot, he was calm and patient. He didn't seem to mind repeating things and was very encouraging. I am actually looking forward to shooting there again!

Just got back from my first visit to this range. Nothing but good things to say.



The staff were very courteous and helpful. Often times in this industry, professionals tend to come off as arrogant and/or hostile towards new and intermediate shooters. This was not the case at all. I grew up around guns, learning from my family members. For those not so fortunate, I'd recommend the folks at CSS as an equal learning experience.



The lanes were clean and well maintained and the store front was neat and organized. Though, their retail selection was somewhat limited, this can't really be avoided in times of panic-buying.



I've got a better stocked shop just a few blocks from my home, but I intend to drive to CSS (20 minutes) for my future purchases all the same. The service is that good.



I'd much rather place an order with a friendly sales-person than make a same-day purchase at a shop full of a-holes. The latter being far too common now-a-days.



My only two gripes would be the limited choice of rental weapons (I brought my Glock, but was kind of looking forward to trying out a 1911), and the range ammunition price. Though, these are fairly standard among all ranges and pretty much unavoidable for their business model so no harm, no foul.



I highly recommend CSS to any and all firearms enthusiasts.

This place is different from any other range I have been to. It is open, well lit, and has clean bathrooms to boot! The staff is friendly and willing to help even those new to guns. As a woman it is nice to find a place where I feel safe and comfortable to practice and better my marksmanship, with staff willing to help me improve.

Visited today and found it to be a great addition to our community. Everything you'd expect from a new gun range, ventilation better than the next closes competitor by far and they made me feel quite comfortable with everything - look forward to going back often.

For those that have not checked this place out, you must do so!!!! State of the art range, ton of guns & accessories, handgun courses, friendly knowledgeable staff and much more.

I've been by this new store, met the owner very nice person. Store front more on Prescot side of Briggsmore. 10 booth range with retail. Glad to see another range and Wish him LUCK.
