Truffle Cake & Pastry Shoppe

I used to work down the street from the place and decided to walk in one day. Their pastries were to die for! Love 'em. After that I went in and talked to the people. They pretty much tell you their rules right up front so there shouldn't be many surprises. Their cakes and specialties looked good and as long as you give them your respect, they'll do the best they can do for you.

I called in mid Dec. 2007 to make an appointment. I was told they didn't take appointments and to come in on any Saturday. I called in January 2008 to check the store hours and heard a tape recording stating that they were close for Jan. and Feb. 2008. You would think they would have mentioned that when I called in Dec. I called on March 13, 2008 to confirm that the store was opened. I was told that their hours for Saturday, March 15, 2008 were 8:00 to 2:00, but that I would have to talk to Juli, regarding my daughters wedding cake and she was only there from 8:00 to 12:00. I drove to Michigan City from Chicago (approx. a 2 hour drive) with my family. We arrived at 10:30, Juli was helping another couple so we waited. Approximately 15 minutes later, Juli told us that she couldn't meet with us and that we would have to make an appointment for another day. I told her I tried to make an appointment, but was told they don't make apointments. She told me they started taking apointments as of the beginning of the year. Again, something that should have been told to me when I called on March 13th. My son-in-law to be is a truck driver and is only in town every 2 weeks. Something that is suppose to be a good experience turn into the worst and most unprofessional one. I would never recommend this bakery. I found out that there is a bakery in Valparaso that is just as good.
