General Info
American Mattress was founded in 1988. Two co-workers from a local family owned mattress company became disheartened after the business was sold to a major corporation. The family owned culture quickly disappeared. Treating customers and employees like family was replaced by big corporate policies. The two friends decided to strike out on their own and create a company with a locally owned culture of friendships and treating every customer like family. The sleep industry had changed over the past 30 years, but the American Mattress brand has never wavered from its original beginnings and remains a symbol for unmatched customer service and the highest quality product offerings.

Overall
My wife and I recently were in...

My wife and I recently were in the market for a new bed. We were shopping all day at other stores not really finding anything we liked or agreed on. We decided to go to Target and saw an American Mattress tucked in a strip mall, so we decided to go in. Much to our pleasure, the gentleman working there on this day was named Jim and happens to be a manager over at Crystal Lake's American Mattress.

Jim is EXTREMELY knowledgable and was really patient with us. After spending many hours in the store, Jim kind of swayed us into purchasing the Serta Icomfort Insight. Delivery was a snap and delivered the following friday. Unfortunately, the wrong size bunkie boards were ordered so Jim gave us some High End low profile foundation to use until the boards arrived. During this time I called Jim multiple times about various questions/concerns I had regarding the mattress and each time he was extremely pleasurable and took the time to make me at ease.

Unfortunately after about 30 days, the Icomfort Insight started to feel as though the foam itself was loosing its firmness as when I layed/sat in the bed, you sank immediately and provided little support. We invited friends and family over just to verify they felt the difference from the different sides of the bed and everyone agreed. Once again, I had to phone Jim, and once again Jim was AWESOME!

We went back to the Mchenry store and found a Vera Wang Natural Poise Super Pillow Top and did the comfort exchange on the beds. We havent recieved the bed yet, but I am not too concerned as I feel I am in good hands with Jim. There was another salesman at the Mchenry location and I didnt really get a good vibe from him while doing the exchange. He seemed agitated that we were changing to a Vera Wang and away from an Icomfort. He seemed irritated everytime I asked the differences between 2 mattresses such as which pillow top was made better, the latex vs visco foam. Just an overall guy I probably would never of bought a mattress from.

So fast forward to today, 2 days after the exchange paperwork was completed. I went to the website and noticed that the price was 100.00 cheaper on the new Vera Wang and went in for the 60 day price guarantee. When I walked in the store, it was the other guy. I greeted him, and explained what I found. Before I could finish, he cut me off, said that the sale was completed, the price on the internet is there because there is no overhead (even though other mattresses are same values in store/online), and that I should be happy that we got the exchange and that he spent 2 hours with us on Saturday doing it(even thought noone else was there). With that I kindly replied it was 2 hours because this guy couldnt get the paperwork done properly which took him 1.5 hours to do.

Once again it was Jim to the rescue. I called Jim, explained what occurred, and in 10 minutes my price guarantee was being processed. Overall if you are in the Mchenry area looking for a mattress, I would recommend driving down the road to the Crystal Lake American Mattress location and finding Jim to help you. Once we recieve the new mattress, I will update the review with any pertinent information. I will also post this same review on multiple review sites in order to help others find a reputable salesperson as it is difficult to do in the mattress industry. Thanks and good luck, Pete
