Primary Care
I consider myself a lifelong learner and have studied both formally and informally to offer high quality care to the children we serve. I completed a mental health fellowship, KYSS, through Arizona State University and have achieved dual board certifications as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Mental Health Specialist. Both certifications had education requirement and passing national board exams through Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).

In 2015, Melissa graduated with Honors from Union University with a Master’s of Science in Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioners degree. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. While pursuing her Master’s degree Melissa’s clinical experience included family, practice, pediatric care and obstetrics.

Autism
Staying actively involved in issues that affect children’s health care and nursing are important to me. I sit on Governor Haslim’s TennCare Pharmacy Advisory Committee since 2016 and also hold the office of secretary for the Music City NAPNAP (National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners) chapter. I was a participant in Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Autism ECHO Research Project in 2017 and completed Vanderbilt’s ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd edition) training in April 2018.

Mental Health
I began my pediatric career in the early 90’s working on the pediatric floor at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. I graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing degree from University of Tennessee at Martin in 1995 and became a certified pediatric nurse through ANCC. During the next twelve years I was able to work with children in both the pediatric acute and critical care areas. I spent a year teaching nursing as I continued my education and graduated in 2006 from Saint Louis University with a Masters in Pediatric Nursing. I began my pediatric nurse practitioner career in Martin initially as a student and staying in the area after graduation. In 2010 I began working at Martin Children’s Clinic. At that time there was a need in the area to provide mental health care to children and mental health counselors were onsite to assist children in need of their services. In 2015 I completed a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from St. Louis University.
