A lingual frenum is the remnant fetal tissue that is found midline underneath the tongue and connects to the floor of the mouth. A tongue tie is diagnosed based on the symptoms of the problems a patient is experiencing and thorough oral examination. The medical term for tongue tie is ankyloglossia. A tongue tie causes significant issues for the breast feeding infant and may also cause problems with bottle feeding. A tongue tie that is left untreated as an infant may cause other health problems in the future; such problems can persist over a person’s life in different ways. For children, teens, and adults, common issues related to tongue tie are found in speech pathology, sleep apnea, and feeding/eating issues.

X-rays
We typically recommend taking X-rays around the age of three or four. Once the baby teeth in back are touching one another, regular yearly x-rays are recommended for early cavity detection. Permanent teeth start coming in around age six, and X-rays help us make sure your child’s teeth and jaw are healthy and properly aligned. If your child is at a high risk of dental problems, we may suggest having X-rays taken at an earlier age or at more frequent intervals. We only utilize digital X-rays in our practice which results in the lowest possible radiation exposure to your child.

Teeth Cleaning
Our goal is to create a positive dental experience that children will remember for a lifetime. Whether your little one is in need of gentle restorations, a checkup and teeth cleaning, or orthodontic treatment with braces or Invisalign® clear aligners, they will leave feeling comfortable, happy, and excited to care for their smile.
Fluoride Treatment
Regular checkup appointments typically take 30 minutes. Unless your child is following a specific treatment plan, most six month follow up appointments include a cleaning by our hygienist, fluoride treatment, and oral exam. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.
Dental Sealants
Sometimes brushing is not enough, especially when it comes to those hard-to-reach spots in your child’s mouth. It is difficult for a toothbrush to reach between the small cracks and grooves on teeth. If left alone, those tiny areas can develop tooth decay. Sealants give your child’s teeth extra protection against decay and help prevent cavities.

Pulpotomy
Root Canal Treatment
A baby root canal is the most commonly needed nerve treatment for a baby tooth. This treatment is necessary when a cavity in a primary tooth is deep enough to have affected part of the nerve. During a baby root canal, the affected part of the nerve is removed and a medicament is placed over the remaining surface.

Dentures
Keep your retainer clean, too, by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may also soak it in denture cleaner as instructed by your orthodontist. Do not put your retainer in boiling water or in the dishwasher.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Every orthodontist starts out in dental school. Upon completion of dental school, some graduates immediately go into practice as dentists.
