All consultations are recommended to obtain a referral from your physician. This can be a primary care physician, a specialist physician, or a chiropractic physician. Dr. Wolfe does perform some consultations without a referral, but without prior records, the benefit of the consultation may be rather limited. After the visit, a consult report will be sent to your physician containing diagnoses and recommendations.

It is typically done with the patient lying on the stomach and usually done under x-ray. Some thinner patients can sometimes be injected without x-ray. Patients receiving intravenous sedation are monitored with EKG, blood pressure cuff and blood oxygen-monitoring device. The skin in the back is cleaned with antiseptic

Degenerative disk disease is the drying out and weakening of the spinal or intervertebral disks. This may cause the disks to bulge or tear. It may cause the disk to irritate nearby nerve roots. It may cause back pain and leg pain depending on the severity. Symptoms may not always correlate with the amount of degenerative disk disease seen on X-ray or MRI.

Sciatica
Sacroiliitis is inflammation or irritation of the sacroiliac joint, which connects the lower spine and sacrum to the pelvis. It is often a result of degenerative arthritis, but may come from gait abnormalities or trauma. It can be associated with an inflammatory spondyloarthropathy, basically any disease that can cause inflammatory arthritis of the spine. It causes buttock pain that can be made worse by movement. It may irritate the underlying sciatic nerve and cause sciatica as well.
Whiplash
Patients with arthritic or thickened facet joints on X-rays that also have any chronic back or neck pain with movement are usually good candidates for facet injections. However, many patients with fairly normal looking facet joints on X-ray can still have arthritis or inflammation in the facet joints and may respond well to facet injections. Bending or twisting often aggravates facet joint pain in the neck or back. Certain postures tend to improve the symptoms while others aggravate the symptoms. Some patients have facet joints injured in whiplash injuries or other traumatic injuries to the neck or back. Most patients receiving facet injections have already tried other, more conservative, treatments including anti-inflammatory medication, chiropractic or physical therapy.

Psoriasis
A rare cause of sacroiliitis is infection of the sacroiliac joint or a reaction from a recent gastrointestinal bacterial infection. Other diseases like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis and others are all associated with developing sacroiliitis.

Physical Therapy
The treatment plan will be instituted and may include medications, physical therapy, chiropractic, counseling and injections. Treatment will continue until stopped by the doctor because the patient is better or because all reasonable treatments have been exhausted. The patient may also choose to stop treatment.
