The shelter is unreasonable in their adoption policies. They require vet records from a cat that was legally my mother's that died over seven years ago, and decline applications because the vet your mother took said cat to no longer has a record of said cat, regardless of how well you took care of any other animals you have had since. They also refuse to save your application for an animal, even if you could magically produce the records of said deceased cat and go so far as to imply that you are unable to provide a good, permanent environment because the other animal you owned now belongs to your brother, even though the animal was your brother's to begin with, and you were caring for him over the course of two years.

There are plenty of other, more respectable animal shelters. I recommend going anywhere but here, especially a kill shelter because you will be actually saving an animal, whereas Friends of Manchester doesn't care whether you adopt their animals or not.

While looking for a pet cat to replace one we lost to old age ailments over a year ago, my wife and I came upon a cat that we liked and was available for adoption at the Manchester Animal Shelter. After reading several reviews (some good and some bad) about the facility, we decided to give this shelter a try and I am writing this review to share the POSITIVE experience we had.
Prior to going to the shelter, I corresponded by phone and through e-mails with 2 separate staff members (Sam and Jessica) who informed me that the animal we were interested in was still available and encouraged us to come in to see the cat and fill out an adoption application.
The day we arrived at the shelter, the staff that greeted us was very friendly and one escorted us out back to "visit" with our potential adoptee. Three separate people were attentive to us, very accommodating, and this is when we met Sam Krinsky who apparently supervises the operation. What impressed me the most was the honesty and amount of information he provided about the cat we were interested in. Not only were we able to bond with the animal, Sam told us his entire history as he knew it and any possible negative things we should be aware of. Although the facility was very busy, Sam and all the staff that attended to us were not pushy, continued to answer our questions and stayed with us until we felt comfortable and understood the adoption procedure.
After a short, mandatory, waiting period for them to perform a background check to insure they were comfortable we would be able to provide the animal with a suitable home, I received a call from Sam that we could pick up our cat. He further guided us to do a "Foster to Adopt" contract to insure any medical or behavioral issues were resolved before our commitment.
Our experience with Manchester Animal Shelter was very POSITIVE and we cannot thank them enough (especially Sam) for the attention they gave us and for helping us adopt our newest family member.

worst Animal shelter EVER. i use to be on their side, i use to bring in strays for them, because I'm all about saving lives. i love animals. love them to death and literally would take a bullet for one before i ever, let one get hurt. unfortunately tough times, and a loss of a loved one made it so that we had no other options but to surrender our animals to this shelter, for the sake of them hopefully getting a second chance. i mean of course no one knows that a loved one is going to pass away and you have to move home over 5 hours away and take care of everything back home. no one prepares for that im sorry. but this shelter took my animals, and made it seem as though they were neglected. which was so far from the case. my animals were loved. DEARLY. EVERY ONE knew this, friends, family. If i have it my way and could've found someone to foster them for a while, i would've done that. but i used all my time and efforts trying to find all three a home. felt like every single person that contacted us fell through. but you know what this shelter did?. when i brought my animals to surrender them, i was in complete and utter disappointment, i had to make that decision for them. but they didn't listen to a word said. one of my animals wasn't fond of kids. in yet they still insisted on putting my animal for a family that had a child. they said "the family seemed shady, but whatever he/she did seemed to have frightened them". ok what happen to him not being in a house with children? why don't you listen?. i keep following up on where or what happen to him, and i came to the startling conclusion that, my animal got put down. BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE OWNER! the hatred that was posted on social media against this animals old owners was disgusting. utterly disgusting. pretty much attacking me, and they don't even know the ACTUAL story. this animal had every thing and anything they could've wanted. i took them for rides, dates, dunkins, puppy play dates. you name it, he this animal did it all with me. you guys are by far the worst animal shelter on the face of the planet. you've literally went against everything you claim to be by doing what you did to him. and i really hope that NONE of you can sleep at night. NEVER COMING HERE OR CALLING AGAIN! EVER.

I just lost my 10 yr old female cat the love of my life , i fostered them from the Manchester animal shelter and adopted both her and her brother , i still have her brother and he misses his sister so much. it thought it was time. Manchester animal shelter denied me for adoption because i declawed and fixed my 6 months old wild kittens!WOW!!! how else are you to handle them. They told me it was cruelty to animals. My female cat had heart problems and lived a very happy life . i have a traveling vet come to the house. That's not cheep...I only give my cats spring water because i think Manchester water causes cancer ...BUT i'm cruel ! NO kill shelter i,m not too sure after i read a girls story about her cats being too old . anyone who knows me knows my cats are my CHILDREN ! I'm offended. I only gave them 1 star because it would not be a rating if i gave a big 0.Which is what they deserve!!!!!!!!

I love the fact that it's a no...

I love the fact that it's a no-kill shelter, when any other shelter wouldn't take the time to really care for or rehabilitate the animals this shelter is great! Although my personal experiences with one of the owners of the Manchester Animal Shelter site over facebook was very bad. She was rude, self righteous, and arrogant, she also did not give me her name. Although i have been very supportive of this shelter and the animals, the woman deleted me off the site because i did not agree with spaying/neutering. After i only asked her why they did it she said some very stuck up things an accused me of being in a "category" in which i am not because we are all on the same side, trying to help the animals. She seems very mean and although everyone has different opinions and experiences, i hope no one else has this problem and if they do i suggest you say something. If you ever give advice to this lady you will get an earful of disreguard anyways. Other than that i recommend everyone bring their animals here to get the best treatment in the long run!

grateful

Adopted one of my dogs from the Manchester animal shelter years ago and periodcally go there to drop off donations, as I am forever grateful. My pup had been at the shelter for 4 months when I adopted her. She was healthy and well socialized.Had she been in a shelter like the majority of shelters -she would have been put to sleep within 10 days.

Having witnesses many "shelters" in many other areas of the country, I am so thankful that Manchester has a no-kill shelter. If I find a stray or sickly animal - i can take them to a place where I know they will be cared for, vetted and found a suitable home. I am also amazed that a rescue working solely on donations is able to intelligently and humanely run a shelter.Operating a no-kill shelter ,especially in hard economic times is no easy task.Hats off to the shelter!!
