Mommies & At Home Upscale Consignment Boutiques

You're not on the Main Line, sweetie, so you should probably tone it down a notch. I was driving by Maria Fe's "Upscale" boutique, so I decided to take in the clothes I was saving for Green Street in Bryn Mawr, since I was right there. I walked in to find a bleached blonde behind the counter sporting an orange tan from her recent vacation "down the shore"(in Wildwood, I presume). Apparently she abides by a strict, speak-when-spoken-to rule, because I had to walk to her to ask if she was accepting consignments. She looked me up and down (mind you, I'm in head-to-toe Anthropologie) and told me in a thick, lower-slower-Delaware accent that she didn't accept unwashed, unhung, K-Mart, or Target clothing that is more than a year old. And it's by appointment only. I looked around the EMPTY store at the selection on the racks in disbelief. Apparently Lily Pulitzer and the eurotrash line bebe are her most upscale offerings. And she can't be bothered to appraise clothing, even if her store looks like a ghost town. Do yourself a favor and go to Goodwill for better customer service and an equally high-end selection.

The cocktail dress that I left for consignment did not get sold within the time frame of the contract. In accordance with the rules of the contract, I called and told employee the date and time that I would be picking up the dress. When I arrived, the dress could not be found. The employee called the owner of the store and learned that the owner had taken the dress from the store to show to a friend and would not be returning it to the store until the following Tuesday. I found it interesting that this was New Year's Eve day and my dress would be perfect for a special evening out. It made me wonder if the owner lends clothes out from her store to her friends. When I was finally able to retrieve my dress, there was a spot on the back of the dress that was not there when I originally brought the dress in. I will not be using this store again!

The owner is so rude and pushy! I walk out when she is there walking around with a chip on her shoulder and her big dog who is cute, but usually needs a bath. The clothes and shoes are a little overpriced for 'used', but I found some very nice things.
