The Corner Market is a small grocery store specializing in mostly local, organic farm products. All of their meat is grass-fed or pastured, raised on small family farms and local most of the year. They have a coffee bar (that also sells specialty sodas), a beautiful café with a seasonal menu that includes gluten-free and vegetarian options (and hands down the best food we've had in town), and an impressive herbal/essential oils selection. We've been a part of the Auburnlea meat CSA since we moved to this area. Now we couldn't be happier with their new store!

An update (09/19/2015): After seeing some of the other comments I wanted to update my review. Auburnlea carries some Boar's Head products because their customers asked them to. After all, they are located right next to an apartment complex that caters to college kids, who I'm sure appreciate a sandwich every now and then. And Boar's Head also has a gluten-free line of lunch meats - something difficult to find in Lynchburg! When I asked Jon, the manager of the meat department, about it he told me that they had done some research and found that Boar's Head had some products that met Auburnlea's values. They carried only those products that were in line with their vision of a farm-to-table store while helping to meet their customer's requests. Corner Market is owned by the family who also operates Auburnlea Farms. They're well known by other organic farmers in the area and locavores for their commitment to sustainable and organic practices. They're also known for being incredibly knowledgable, kind people. If you have a question or concern, I encourage you to ask! They're always more than willing to explain why they carry one product over another and talk about where they source their food from.

So what is it. Local and organic or just labeled that way. Sure would like to know.

I must disagree with the previous reviewers comment that "all of their meat is grass-fed or pastured, raised on small family farms and local most of the year". I am sure that is what Aburnlea wants its customers to believe and that is my problem with them....I despise misleading labels and advertising, especially when its to the detriment of the creatures that provide us with food by losing their lives. Here is my take on Aburnleas Corner Market.

My husband and I just moved to Lynchburg. We only eat meat that is humanely raised and we would buy directly from a local farm in our previous town, so we were excited to learn about Aburnlea Farms and that they have a market in Lynchburg. Although I appreciate what they are trying to do with making local items easily accessible, the store was a huge disappointment. When I enter a store like this one, I expect everything in the store to be free-range, local, and organic....especially since the description of the store implies these values. However, upon seeing the pre-packaged meat area, my trust for Corner Market immediately dwindled as the first thing I laid eyes on was a Boars Head label. There is NOTHING special about Boars Head. They are not local, not farm to table, not humane, and their products are not even organic. Corner Market does have a fresh meat counter, and I am sure this is fine because it is all Aburnlea Farms (I think it is anyway, the labeling is poor so it is unclear), but the selection is very limited, and if you want something like lunch meat or hot dogs, you are forced to go to the pre-packaged section. To my disappointment, I will not be visiting Corner Market again. I was really hoping they would be that special place I am looking for. We will be purchasing meats online from the farm in our previous town and just pay the price for shipping, or make the drive up to Whole Foods in Charlottesville
