Overall

I have had three experiences with Scott Hall Imports in the following order.

We took our Nissan Altima with 55,000 miles on it to Scott Hall Imports to have the breaks checked out. They told me that the pads needed replacing and also tried to sell me on replacing all of the rotors too. I have never replaced rotors unless the car was well over 100k miles, they were warped, or the pads had wore down until the backing ate into the rotor & damaged them. So I tell them no on the rotors and when I ask how much it will cost they tell me "about $200". So they do the work and when I went to pay, he prints the invoice that says I owe $330. When I said "that's a lot more than the other guy told me it would be", he asks "what did he tell you" and I told him $200. He looks over the invoice & says "he's got the parts priced incorrectly and something else isn't right either. Just make it $200". Even though I was glad that he agreed to take the $200, that seemed sketchy to me.

Soon after that, I took an old Honda Accord there that was making a "roaring" noise at speeds over 40mph & left it with them to check out. After having the car for half a day, they call me and said that the noise is coming from the transmission & that I needed to take it to a shop that specializes in transmissions. So they don't charge me for the "inspection" but I leave thinking this vehicle needs to be replaced immediately because it's not worth putting $2000-$2500 into another transmission. So we reduce the amount we're driving this vehicle, start looking for another car but start noticing that the noise seems to change from day to day being loud at times and not so loud at other times. I finally decide to take it to a different mechanic for a second opinion. That mechanic looks into the problem and finds that a hub bearing is bad and it's a $275 fix. He fixes the problem, looks the car over tells us is in good shape mechanically, and that we should be able to get another two years or more out of it. I don't know if Scott Hall Imports even looked at it or if they just didn't want to mess with it for some reason. Maybe old cars are too dirty for them to work on? I'd be okay with them just saying that instead of wasting my time.

I called them asking for a price on repairing ball joints and a rear end seal on a '98 Honda Passport in late morning one day. He said he would look into it and call me back. I hadn't heard anything by the next day late afternoon so I stopped in there and asked about it. He said he still hadn't got to it but would call when he did. That has been eight weeks or more and they still haven't called and gave me a price. Again, maybe it's too old and dirty for them to work on. That's the last time I'll go there.
