Plantar Fasciitis
An important part of plantar fasciitis treatment may involve wearing a night splint for plantar fasciitis. Even if you kick the night splint off in the middle of the night, you’ll still reap benefits for the time you do wear it. Pediatric Care
She has always been interested in the medical field, and has shadowed in the Women’s Center at Baptist Health Northeast and at Oldham County Pediatrics. She was a also a student volunteer at Baptist Health East in Louisville in the Phase II Recovery unit. She enjoyed serving as president of the Medical Explorers program at Baptist Health Northeast during the 2013-2014 school year. During her pre med student internship at Orthopaedic Specialists, Mackenzie hopes to figure out whether or not she would like to pursue a career in medicine.
Primary Care
Most of the time orthopedic surgery will be completed at Baptist Hospital East Point or at the Metro Specialty Surgery Center. Dr. Grossfeld will also perform orthopedic surgery at Jewish Medical Center East and Norton’s, based on insurance requirements or primary care physicians’ preference.
Family Practice
Dr. Wesam ELRamahi just finished up what he described as an “amazing month” at Orthopaedic Specialists PLLC in Louisville, Kentucky working with Dr. Grossfeld and team. We loved having him at our office and wish him the very best with his career in medicine!! Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. ELRamahi moved to Louisville in June 2013 from Southfield, Michigan to complete his Residency in Family Medicine at the University of Louisville. Dr. ELRamahi received his bachelors degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and then joined the GE as a production and process #engineer in their Plastics division. After a seven year career in chemical engineering, during which time he also became a certified EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), he decided to pursue his long term passion for medicine. He attended medical school at the American University of the Caribbean in Saint Maarten where he also served as the Student Government President and later completed his clinical training at Providence Hospital in Michigan. Dr. ELRamahi enjoys spending time with his son Adam playing soccer, basketball, laser tag, going to the zoo and Louisville parks. He also loves to travel, swim, practice marital arts and dine out. Dr. ELRamahi is excited to be joining Norton Medical Associates at their Fern Creek office and will be welcoming patients of all ages. Dr. ELRamahi is dedicated to family wellness with a focus on preventative medicine, women’s health and improving quality of life through patient centered care. He is currently accepting new patients and will begin in August of 2016.
Emergency Care
There will be absolutely no medication refills after office hours and over the weekends or holidays. Dr. Grossfeld will not have access to your medical records and from a risk management prospective is unable to refill. The only way to potentially get a refill during those times is to be seen at an urgent care center or emergency department. Those facilities may also elect not to refill your medication. Unfortunately there is vast abuse of narcotics in the state of Kentucky which has made these policies necessary.

Typically, with 4-6 weeks of rest and NSAIDs, patients can return to baseball, softball, or their other sports pain-free if the injury is solely Proximal Humeral Epiphysitis. While the growth plate will appear widened on x-ray, MRI would be able to tell if there was a more extensive injury, such as a fracture, but the treatment is mostly the same.

She first got interested in orthopedics because of her love of competitive sports. Growing up in northern Wisconsin she was a cross country ski racer and a competitive cyclist. While in high school she ran cross country and track, competing at the state level. Her love for fitness and sports continues today.
Arthroscopy
By the time she was able to receive treatment, Joyce’s back pain had caused her knees to worsen without the ability to walk or keep stretching, which led to her right knee replacement in 2021. But, as her right knee improved, Joyce found that her left knee’s development was moving in the opposite direction. Sure enough, Dr. Grossfeld completed a knee arthroscopy surgery to remove a meniscal tear in her left knee, which fixed her pain until her arthritis came back and she was sent to get her left knee replaced.

Arthroscopy
Sometimes orthopedic surgery requires extensive physical therapy such as a rotator cuff repair. As a rule of thumb, shoulder surgery requires physical therapy. ACL reconstruction is a knee surgery that does require physical therapy, whereas most knee arthroscopy will not. Dr. Grossfeld will discuss the physical therapy requirements of your orthopedic surgery with you.
Knee Replacement
From her original concerns until her last knee replacement surgery, Joyce says that her recovery took around a total of 3 years. At the height of her pain, Joyce felt unable to do most things that she loved, including walking, stretching, and even cooking! While she tried to supplement some parts, like taking up water-walking at Dr. Grossfeld’s advice, the lack of sleep and weakness her injuries caused left her mood suffering.

Dr. Grossfeld was able to address her pain and injuries with medications and another bout of physical therapy, this time for her back, but before she experienced relief, less than a month from her accident, Joyce was rear-ended again, which worsened her condition to the point that standing and walking caused her severe pain. Now using a cane and having difficulties sleeping that also led to a pop-up case of temporomandibular disorder (TMD), Joyce felt it was time to take a leave of absence so that she could focus on resolving her pain. Dr. Grossfeld was able to send her to a pain specialist, who diagnosed a pinched nerve in her vertebrae that would require a series of treatments over the course of a few weeks.
