Kidsplay Therapy is exactly where she is supposed to be!
Primary Care
The first step is to receive a prescription from your child’s primary care physician. Next, you can contact Kidsplay either through the web or phone where you will be asked to complete an intake packet providing basic information on your child and health insurance. Someone from Kidsplay will call you to schedule an appointment for an initial evaluation. The evaluation takes 1-2 hours. Once completed, an assessment report will be compiled with recommendations and sent to you and your child’s physician. In some cases, prior authorization from the insurance company is also required, so the appropriate information will be provided to them as well. Once authorization is received, any necessary therapy is scheduled. The children receive a regular appointment time.

Neurology
Occupational therapy is a health profession in which the therapists are trained to improve a person’s occupational performance. A pediatric occupational therapist work with the child and family to improve a child’s play, education, or self-care skills such as feeding and dressing. An occupational therapist evaluates the child’s fine motor, sensory integration, visual perceptual and self-care care skills as well as range of motion, muscle tone, motor planning, functional communication and social adaptation. If the child and family would benefit from occupational therapy, the occupational therapist will recommend treatment and will utilize his or her knowledge in sensory integration, anatomy, neurology, kinesiology, child development, medical diagnosis and current research to improve the child’s occupational performance. The therapy sessions are generally fun for the child and a variety of activities may be adapted to address your child’s needs.
Autism
Lauren received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003. She received a Master’s of Science degree in Speech- Language Pathology at the University of South Alabama in 2005. Lauren has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and public school. She has experience in several areas of speech and language including but not limited to articulation disorders, autism, apraxia, and various language disorders. She joined the Kidsplay team in 2009 and began serving families in the McDonough area in 2017. The McDonough therapy team is growing, and Lauren feels excited and blessed to provide services to more families through this expansion. In her free time, Lauren enjoys traveling to visit her friends and family and spending time with her husband and two sons.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Yoly received her BS from the University of Puerto Rico in 1990. She has participated in continuing education for 29 years. Yoly has 29 years of experience as a pediatric occupational therapist with ages from newborn to 18 years. She speaks Spanish fluently. Her experience includes neonatal intensive care, inpatient, early intervention, and outpatient settings. She is SIPT certified, therapeutic listening certified, modality certified, and handwriting without tears certified. She is also experienced in sequential oral and sensory motor processing disorder, developmental delays, autism, cardiac patients, ADD/ADHD, anxiety disorders, and a variety of other syndrome disorders. She worked at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for 22 years and joined Kidsplay in January of 2020. Yoly was drawn to Kidsplay because of the family-like work and dedication to excellence in patient care. Yoly enjoys singing, reading, running, and spending time with her husband, 2 daughters, and maltese dog.
Mental Health
Katie received her B.S. in biology from the University of Georgia in 1996. She received her M.S. in occupational therapy from Brenau University in 2008. Katie started her OT career at Kidsplay in August of 2008 and has remained here ever since. Her experience includes working in public and private schools for children with special needs, adult mental health, and outpatient pediatrics. Katie has utilized aquatic and hippotherapies, trauma-informed therapy, sequential oral sensory (SOS) feeding approach, and sensory integration therapy. While at Kidsplay, she has the privlege to work with children with a variety of challenges, including sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, trauma-induced delays, learning difficulties, unsing evidence-based sensory integration therapy. Katie appreciates the philosophies of following the child’s lead using structure and clear expectations as well as working closely with the familties to promote a child-motivated environment. She believes these approaches provide children with the best opportunities to learn new skills. Katie enjoys working out, traveling, and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
